I agree. I usually sit back and watch, but sometimes it's fun to get involved. Mine's faster.....Mine sounds better.

With diesel fuel at least 50 cent a gallon higher the mileage will work out about same, plus the higher maintenance cost of a diesel

Uniformed opinions like these are why we don't have more diesels in America.

1000 miles at 20 mpg and 3.50 a gallon equals $175 in fuel cost.

1000 miles at 30 mpg and 4.00 a gallon equals $133.33 in fuel cost.

Diesel engines and exhaust systems do have different maintenance costs but lets compare. If the same truck from the same brand uses the same transmission what is different? Engine and Exhaust system.

Lets compare the VW Diesel car of mine and it's maintenance. Same transmission as V6 version. It is more expensive to maintain and repair than I5 engine transmission. Diesel comes with very low maintenance manual however. Every 20k miles fuel filter, more than the gassers. Oil changes are a wash between the two. DEF required for my car, but runs less than a penny a mile.

In other words same maintenance costs I can get a full 70% better mileage with around a 20% increase in fuel price. Hell it's not even as good as the 100% increase that is being advertised by Dodge.

Seriously couldn't get me to buy a Dodge if you put a gun to my head but the amount of Diesel hate and misinformation is boggling on this forum.

Oh and I'm very aware that repair costs, especially for relatively new common rail engines and exhaust systems, for diesel are much higher. I won't argue that as a point against any diesel.

Really, with 30 less hp and the same mileage rating? The hemi has a solid reputation of reliability, the Eco-boost has a solid reputation of being hit or miss. (cough, intercooler,,,cough). Not to mention the growing doubt about turbo engine mileage? (Which I think is just a case of using easily available power, the mileage is there for those who want it.)

I like my Fords, but I'm not so blind as to defend the brand. The product is what counts, and the Hemi is a solid package, held back for the past 10 years by hokey gearboxes, but still with a solid rep as a fantastic towing engine. Now it appears to have the best trans in the 1/2 ton segment.

The Ford / GM 9 speed will be interesting, if it happens.

Park your diesel car outside up here for a day when it is -10F to -30F and then we will see how much you like it.
I know several people who ran out and bought them recently and they don't start.
And when they do run in cold weather the mileage is really poor.
