2014 Brake Fluid leaks from master cylinder into brake booster
Yesterday I had an odd thing happen. I started my truck in the driveway and a message appeared that brake fluid was low. The brake pedal went all the way to the floor. I opened the hood and there was no fluid in the reservoir, so I filled it. There was also no fluid on the driveway. I started it up and drove for a minute or two around the block, and the message reappeared. The reservoir was empty again and again there was no sign of any brake fluid leaking around the wheels or underneath the vehicle. I filled it again and drove it slowly to the local Ford dealer. About a minute or two after I started driving the message appeared. When I got to the dealer, there was no fluid in the reservoir. I used the e-brake, slow speed, and gears to get to the dealer, in retrospect I should have had Ford tow it. The service advisor could not find any leaks under the truck. They kept the vehicle overnight and this morning they called to tell me that the master cylinder was leaking the fluid into the brake booster and that both parts have to be replaced. I am under warranty, so we'll see what happens. Meanwhile, I looked at the NHTSA web site and found this information. Looks like there have been a few other complaints and the NHTSA is investigating. Glad this didn't happen while I was doing 70 MPH on I-95. I am a FORD shareholder and I hope FORD does the right thing with this issue before anyone is killed. I added my complaint about this issue to the NHTSA data base.

SUMMARY:
The Office of Defects Investigation has received 33 reports alleging master cylinder failures in model year (MY) 2013 through 2014 Ford F-150 full size pickup trucks. All of the reports involve F-150 trucks equipped with 3.5L engines, with an estimated 420,000 units sold in the United States representing approximately 36 percent of MY 2013-2014 F-150 sales. The complaints allege symptoms of brake pedal going to the floor with complete loss of brake effectiveness, brake warning lamp illumination, and/or low or empty master cylinder reservoir fluid level with no visible leakage. Several complaints allege repair facilities diagnosed the problem as brake fluid leaking from the master cylinder to the brake booster. Thirty-one (31) of the reports were received in the last 12 months, including 20 in the last 7 months. Four complaints allege that the alleged defect resulted in collisions. A Preliminary Evaluation has been opened to assess the scope, frequency, and safety-related consequences of the alleged defect. The ODI complaints cited above can be viewed at www.safercar.gov under the following ODI identification numbers: 10818273, 10817706, 10809601, 10788886, 10788369, 10785526, 10779854, 10776834, 10766291, 10762034, 10761412, 10760663, 10758997, 10750065, 10749886, 10748122, 10747875, 10747531, 10746143, 10745511, 10744847, 10743344, 10733196, 10733023, 10731327, 10725476, 10725096, 10725046, 10724169, 10715103, 10692723, 10662564, and 10632103."

I did report it to the NHTSA, and I also saw the report that the dealer blamed the issue in one case on an aftermarket CAC - so I assume that was you. Mine had 18045 miles when the issue appeared. The scary thing is that there has been no redesign of these parts, so it will be very hard for me to trust the repair. Did they fix yours under the warranty or not because of the CAC? A CAC has nothing to do with a master cylinder failure.

Does anyone know if Ford is doing anything except replacing with the same defective parts? This just happend to my 2014 on 5/17/2016 with 27,050 miles. My dealer is replacing my entire brake system and returning the brake lines, fluid, booster and master to Ford MoCo for their evaluation. My concern is that they don't know how to stop the problem from happening again. I don't feel safe driving this vehicle or towing my boat.

It looks like this has become a recall, my wife saw on the news that ford is recalling over a quarter million trucks from 2013-2014 for brakes that leak

The pug life chose me.
I second the recall post, just saw a news article about a brake fluid leak. Funny thing is the dealer seems to hear about the recall after the news haha.
