My 13 5.0 knocked like that for over 100,000 miles. Actually- it still does with the new owner.

I have a 2012 that started knocking around 70k. Drove it all the way from upstate NY to South Dakota and back with no issues at all. Still knocks now and I have almost 90k on it. I've had the truck to three ford dealerships (one in South Dakota, and two in New York) and they said the same thing. "Oh that's normal" "All our other F150's sound like that...". I did have a misfire on cylinder 7 so I replaced the COP and all the plugs. Didn't seem to change the knock at all. I've just accepted it. I've never heard of any catastrophic engine failures on a 5.0L that can be traced back to the knock. I don't even notice it anymore. It doesn't seem as pronounced as it once was, I am the second owner, and I can't say if the previous owner ran Motorcraft Oil and Filters. That's all I run in it. I'm installing a catch can and may replace the PCV valve this weekend to see if it will help at all.

Whether it's detrimental or not is up for debate, but there are reports of short blocks being replaced to fix the sound. My 2013 5.0 had a short block done however my knock was extremely loud compared to my older '11 that I have now.

Same as yours, but mine was #2 and #3 on passenger side and i got a new SB, but like you all said it would probably run just as the rest have. So far quiet and I will be switching it to full synthetic within the next 2 oil changes.

On my 2011 I can hear it faintly coming from a couple cylinders, whereas it was a prominent knock from one cylinder in my 2013. I mentioned it to the dealer during an oil change and they reached out to Ford and they gave the go-ahead for a block replacement due to the severity and volume of the noise. I don't really care much about the noise on my 2011.

I'm thinking I'm just gonna run mine unless it gets really severe, where it's doing it all the time. And if it comes down to it and it's out of warranty, I'll just throw an aluminator in it and roushcharge it. It's turning into my second vehicle shortly
