Default 2013 XLT "USB hatch" (below radio/environmental controls)

I've searched on this and can't find anything on it.

What do y'all use this for? I've got a 2013 F150 XLT with the 'hatch' (the thing that, when opened, provides a USB plug, accessory plug, and a line in jack). The only thing I can find to use it for is to store my wallet when driving (I've got a slimline wallet).

I don't use it at all.. I'll occasionally toss my phone in there when charging but that's about it - and I charge from the outlet by the radio since the one in the cubby charges unbelievably slow. I wish there was something to replace it with, a fold down secondary cupholder perhaps, or just an empty cubby for storage. .

Same here. It bothers me that there's a ton of supposed functionality in there and they evidently figured it needed a somewhat useless hatch. LOL

I plug my dash cam in that power port and use the door for thumb drive and miscellaneous storage. Since I changed my stereo I now have an extra usb slot as well as an HDMI port. Haven't used it yet but it's there If I wish to watch a movie on the touch screen. The line in port I used once with an external HD radio tuner but the new stereo has that built in so I don't see it ever getting used in the future.

I don’t, I charge thru the 12v in the console as it’s a hot line. That usb shuts off when the vehicle is shut off.

I put an extra charging cable in there and have a few flash drives.

Before I had a large storage on my phone I preloaded a ton of music on a flash drive and plugged it into that port. Now I use bluetooth audio.

You can also do sync updates through that USB port.

I keep an old iPod touch hooked to the USB port and tucked in that door for music. Also keep an Apple lighting cable cooler in there for when I want to use CarPlay.
