I'm wondering if it would be cheaper to add aftermarket speakers, a sub, and amp. I don't wanna change out the head unit this time around. $999 sounds pretty steep for an amp and sub. I do like the fact that its a factory system though, so ford can't void warranty if something goes wrong with the electrical system

I wish I had that kind of money laying around also! lol I'm doing my research way in advance so I know what to get when I finally save up a few extra dollars.

I had to look long and hard for a 2013 screw xlt 4x4 157" Without the 301a option. That gave me the stx LCD stereo, which is what I wanted as I knew I was going to upgrade. So to the op, you can get an '13 xlt with the LCD base stereo, and use the Pac adapter.

edit:This is a Canadian f150 base xlt. The old farmer no bells and whistles edition. Maybe harder to find in the states.

hey guys!
I know im new here but I thought I would throw in my 2 cents.
I'm going to be upgrading my factory radio over the next few weeks.
If you're looking to swap the head unit METRA ONLINE has a new dash kit for the 2013 f150 w/ 4" screen.(http://www.metraonline.com/part/99-5830B) now for retention of sync features. MAESTRO RR from idatalink (http://maestro.idatalink.com/product...product_id/102). will let you retain all your sync features including bluetooth. will work for pre and post 2012 models. (I warn you these parts can be pricey so shop around).
Ford offers a "plug and play" option for a sub etc etc. far better sound quality can be achieved for not too much more.
Now for people who like their factory HU and don't want to change the look of the dash. Look at a hi/low level converter or a digital signal processor (DSP). There are tons of options to choose from and a fair few DSP's will take hi level in.

I know that one is pricey.
My truck has the 4" lcd screen and it will be staying for the time being. Going to be running
-audison bit one
-rockford fosgate T5's in the front
-audison Voce 5.1K amp
-two JL 10's on the rear floor.
