Default 2013 spy photos....changes may be more significant and sooner than later?

I know there has been a lot of discussion the past year or more, over when there would be a face-lift/sheet metal change on the existing '09-to current year F-150; wherein the current design, is close to what has been offered since 2004 and then received a major update in 2009.

It appears, however, from looking at the photo and also from the analysis of these [other] forum members, (link attached below) that not only will the headlights change (new design better performance and look) but the grill will be updated more like the F250/350 series and most importantly, the actual front end sheet metal will be changed and will be more sloped/tapered from the current look.

When another member in this forum, first reported the 2013 spy photos in another thread a couple of weeks ago (I could not readily find that thread) I thought that this was just going to be a simple headlight change. Now, having reread that other forum link, and also the attached comments/analysis from forum members...."They lowered the front fenders and sides of the hood about an inch from the top on the new truck. Trying to be less block-ish?"....more has met my eye, and it appears that maybe this will indeed be a more substanative change, including sheet metal; this, in an interim (competitive) move to hold over until the complete major style makeover later in the decade, possibly 2015 or 2016; and not 2014, as many of us previously thought?

I realize it is hard to get the 'feel' for the new look with all the shrouding on a white std. cab long bed truck; however, it appears to be enough of a change, to be able to discriminate between the '09 to '12 MY trucks, now on the road, vs. this new '13.

Added to this, a souce of mine (at a local dealership) offered to me, that this current '12 MY run, may be somewhat abbreviated/shortened, after this past [unusually] longer '11 MY run; and that there "may" be the 'new' '13 model year product announced and arriving at dealers somewhat earlier in 2012; most likely NLT late Aug. to early Sept.

I feel this may have some validity, as evidenced by this very early testing of the '13 model year and thus the sudden availabilty of these spy photos, when the 12's are only now, this week, being delivered to dealers.
Note:An example would be the recent production schedule for the 2012 F-250 which started much earlier (7/25/11) than that of the F-150 this current MY.

If this is the case, then I most likely will hold off until later in the spring, after I fully understand what is going on, before I replace my '09? (My '09 runs perfectly, I just want more options than what I have, including Nav and Sony; and of course, the EB!)

I know whenever they make an exterior change/update like this, some other aspects and features, even on the interior, also get updated/refreshed, similar with the changes from '08 to '09. Maybe an updated Nav system, new wheel choices, and even more improved MPG and/or other EB system tweaking/enhancements?

I remember, in the late spring of '08, I almost traded my 2004 F-250 in on a new 2008 F-150, as the deals were so great; then, I was tipped off by a friend in the business, that there was a new version coming out in 2009 and I should hold off. In that regard, I am glad I did and I really like the features/changes in this current truck.

Decisions, decisions....

I think the 13's will give an idea of what the 14's or 15's will have. I would compare the 2013 F150 change to the 2005 Superduty change. Slightly different front end, interior changed up some, but overall, the same truck. Many people in the SD community even took a 99-04 SD and put a 05 grille on it. I got my 2011 this summer. Am thinking I will get a 2015 or 2016 150. Give the new design a good year to be out so I can figure out what configurtations I want.

Here's my guess. Ford updates the F150 in 2012 as the 2013 MY. Chevy is coming out with a new Silverado in 2014. So Ford will run the updated version until at least 2014. This will allow them to see what Chevy did, and where Ford can pass them where they have to. Id expect a re-desigened 150 no earlier than the 2015 MY.

Yes, this could very well be the scenario; in any event, it would not take much to change over the assembly line (later in the spring/early summer) with not much down time at all....just differently configured parts.

Wow, if that spy pic is what the '13 F150's gonna look like then I guess I'll be grabbing an '11 or '12. Dont personally care for the way the Super Duty front end looks now and really wont like it if they put it on a half ton....

^^^ I agree! Not big on the grill and headlight design of the Super duties and it looks like they are trying to mimic the super duty front ends for the F150.

The last generation SD definately looks better. I wouldnt want a new one. But I think the 150's will look fine. I wouldnt wait to get a 2013 model if I wanted a new truck now. Just get a good deal on a 2011 model, and wait for the complete redesign in a few years.

It's just an Eco with HD and Max Tow packages, with a new grill and lights. There are no sheet metal differences. And for those who dislike the new grill, remember there are several grills offered so this will only be one of the new models.
