Not quite, 80-96 was the same architecture with updates along the way, 97-03.5 was completely different, and again 04-13+ are on a different architecture. The 4-5 year "new trucks" are simply face lifts.

They may be facelifts as you call em, but the year models I described were completely different inside and out. Yes, the 80-96 kept the twin I beams front suspension and the same motors (obviously adding EFI), but the looks completely changed. So while the 04-Pres trucks share many of the same "hidden features", the trucks are for the most part, completely diffrent.
