It's actually a lariat grill -- I bought it off eBay so they're around but a little tough to find reasonable

I am looking to do the same exact thing, but keeping my surround since it color matches my truck. Was there any way that you could be able to just swap out the inserts?

I did between 2 13 grills but I've heard mounting tabs may be different on 11/12 vs 13.

jvines, thank god for your post, I've been looking all over for the answer to whether the FX4 2013 grille is two piece or one! Just from looking at mine I swore it was two piece but read elsewhere people claiming it was one and needing to swap the whole grille out. I LOVE my oxford white surround on my 13 FX4, but HATE the glossy black C-clamps! I really want the 14 limited grill insert, its similar to the platinum but is chrome like the lariat, just slightly different style.

2 questions if you don't mind:

1. How difficult was it to separate the two pieces? The click and lock tabs seem very rigid and prone to cracking esp in the cold
2. When you say painted, I assume you mean you painted the chrome insert part of the lariat grille to a platinum it looks like?
