Just replaced my hub bearing assy and vacuum hub this weekend. To say the least the Vacuum hub came out in 2 pieces. Lol and instead of doing the labor twice I just did all possible issues that would cause a prob. It now rides smooth at glass. Hopefully the vacuum hub last longer than a year like the last one did lol

Nice! Something i noticed this weekend was it was warm here down south (>75 degrees) and there was no detectable noise when turning. Further evidence that i believe mine is related to the lubrication on the needle bearings. Maybe it will stay quiet and I won't have to worry about it until winter comes around again. So, basically December.

Very disappointed to see the frequency of this problem. Ford posted a TSB May 1, 2013. Still it persists. My 2013 has had 2 of the hub actuators replaced in last 6 months. Mileage still under 13,000 (used for hiking, camping and light loads like yard waste).

Talked with another F150 owner from Canada. He has replaced three. Dealer told him Ford only covers the first 3!, so the next one is on the owner.

Post complaints to fordproblems.com or directly to NHTSB. No reason to continue to install low reliability components. Root cause should be fixed.

See TSB at

@jacksprat1 - Yes a bit unnerving to see the plethora of posts on this issue. I would like to know if Ford actually redesigned the actuator or just stuck a 'b' on the newer part number.

You can replace the entire IWE system in a few hours for around $200.
It's actually pretty simple to fix.

This problem has resurfaced for me not even a year later after the fix. Not too happy. Is there a Ford presence online here that can help me contact regional? Thank you.

Default Same issue

Troubleshooting the same issue described here on my 2013 Ecoboost F150. Sound is heard/felt at slow speeds, braking at slow speeds and left turns, goes away when I put it in 4WD. I have tested all vacuum lines, they all hold pressure, I even took the IWE's apart and they all operate correctly , replacing the check valve now, will report back. So crazy!!

Bet you the check valve will solve your problem. If not, try the solenoid next.

Ended up being the IWE's, I replaced them and lubed everything up, no noise! There is a plastic guide rail that the synchros ride on and they did have a little lateral play, not much but I'm assuming just enough to make them scrub on the hub. There was no damage to the hubs or the synchros. I never let it make the noise longer then a few seconds, I would always just shift it into 4WD.
