Gotcha - thanks.
As a note, I have never put my truck into 4A and still had the IWE issue.

Like time I don't use AWD. I only use 4wd.

Here's the fix they came up with for mine.

They pulled both IWE actuators out and inspected them. They found that they were fine. What they found was the center bearings inside the hubs needed grease. They also greased needle bearings and the IWE assembly on both sides to prevent issues down the road.

So far, so good. I'm really quite pleased that we've had over a week of the exact weather where the truck would make the noise, and I hear nothing. I'll report back if I find/hear anything else from them.

Default Ive been dealing with the same issue

Sounds a lot like you describe except mine is only on low speed left turns. Ford dealer is working to diagnose it. Im convinced it is related to IWE issue but they dont seem to think so. Seems like they are replacing everything BUT the IWE system.

A typical 4WD user puts it in 4WD and leaves it until it's no longer needed. They don't switch back and forth a dozen times in the course of a few miles.
That's not how it works. In AWD the hubs get locked and stay locked. The AWD function comes from the transfer box.

Having the same issue as we speak, i replaced my driver side last winter, and now doing it again this weekend. And since last winter only used the 4wd maybe 6 times. But for some reason it keeps eating up the driver side only. After this time im ready to pull my hair out at this point.

When you replaced it last winter, did you use the revised part number?

^ part number = 7L1Z-3C247-B

...the "B" is different - I am trying to determine what/if anything is different. I have read it is the same part (hope not) with the required bolts.

@time after reading all this info about vacuum system, the check valve i took off and can blow air through it both ways, so i was able to run to autozone just now and found this http://www.autozone.com/emission-con...ype/230927_0_0 . it seem to have solved the slow humming i had at slow rotating speeds. But my driver side iwe still clicks on turns, but i think that is just worn out from the bad check valve. I would try the check valve first. it was only $4.
I still am gonna replace the iwe with ford new replacment tho. bc i have to it rattles.

i would def try and get the check valve first. Im almost positive that solved the moaning sound at slow breaking speed.. You feel that moaning sound on rotation even in the brake peddle and steering wheel correct, along with hearing it correct? bc i feel we have the exact same symptoms. lol
