Default 2013 F150 5.0 Strange Cold Start Noise

Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone has heard of or experienced this before. My truck from time to time makes a loud screech/grind/squawk noise just as the engine catches at the end of the starter running, and lasts for a second or two. It sounds a bit too metallic to be a belt squeal, it's as if the starter doesn't disengage smoothly or something like that. I am going to try and catch it in the act with the hood up next time to try and better understand the noise. Maybe even record it happening. Any ideas?

It happens to mine and many others 5.0's too. It seems to be normal, however I hate when it makes that noise. I wouldn't worry about it. Mine only makes the noise if its been sitting for more than 24hours

It definitely is strange, especially since it has less than 3k miles on it. My 2011 5.0 never made the noise once in the 20k miles I owned it. I guess I will just keep an eye on it for now...

Yeah, I don't think that's normal. Mine doesn't make any noise like that.

The number of trucks this effects seems to be completely hit-and-miss (totally random). A decent amount 11-13 trucks do this, not sure why.

Im thinking the auto-start overestimates how long the engine takes to start after its been sitting for awhile. Again, mine only does this after its been sitting for more than 24 hours. It's done that since new. I just don't feel like arguing with the stealership because I know they'll tell me it's normal. I've done a little digging around on the Internet and this seems to be a somewhat common issue. So far I haven't heard of it causing damage to the starter or flex plate.
