2013 Engine fan stuck on?
 

2013 XLT 3.5 EB. Have had it for about a month and haven't experienced this yet.

Today, just after a 20 minute drive on a highway, I came into town and was driving around at slow speeds for about 30 minutes. I pulled up to a drive through window, turned my air conditioner fan speed down to be able to hear, and noticed a very loud electric fan noise from the engine bay. Darn near loud enough so that I couldn't hear the lady in the drive through. A quick google search told me this was some auxiliary fan that pops on? Or just the engine fan at "high speed"?

I went home and let the truck sit for about 3 hours (ambient temp about 85-90 degrees). I then went back outside...coolant level looks good...and started the motor...that stupid fan came on in about 5 seconds.

More google searches....apparently might have something to do with the AC pressure switch or the refrigerant level?

I have a business trip tomorrow and have to drive 2 hours on a highway...is this safe to do?

Unless they were reprogrammed at some point in time. There was a TSB a while back (can't find it now) where if there was a complaint of AC not cold enough, or EB overheating, the dealer was to reprogram the fans to run at full speed longer and at lower temps and faster speed. I believe it was something like 80F or 85F, can't remember for sure, and up to 35mph.

I have that "upgraded" program on my truck. It is loud, but as long and me and the engine are cool, I don't much care if the truck is noisier than it was when I 1st bought it.

I let it cold soak overnight...started it when ambient temp had raised to about 80 degrees...no loud fan. I then drove a couple of hours on highway...ambient temp went up to a high of 88 degrees. When I came into the town I was driving to, I slowed down for a stop sign...no loud fan. Drove around that town for a while at slow speeds...no loud fan.

so whatever caused it that first time....must not have happened on yesterday's trip
wierd.

I have a 2013. Occasionally the fans run at super high speeds. Sounds really loud. It's only in the summer time, AC is on, it's really hot outside. Sometimes if you are stuck in number to number traffic too. It's normal.
