Default 2013 Ecoboost Return of the Rattle

I have a 2013 Ecoboost I bought back in September of 2013. Around the late winter, early spring of 2015, I started hearing the dreaded rattle on a cold start. At the time the truck had around 28-30k miles on it. I argued with my dealership a bit, recorded the rattles, and eventually got them to fix the problem under warranty after I presented them with the service bulletin myself. They had my truck for about 2 weeks, but once I got it back, the rattle was gone. The truck seemed to idle a bit rougher than before but otherwise everything was running well. My warranty expired in September of this year, and right around mid October of this year the rattle started coming back with around 45k miles on the truck. Now the rattle is full blown again, and I'm trying to figure out my best approach with the dealership. I can only imagine this is an expensive repair to pay for out of pocket. Do I have any argument over the fact that my warranty just expired, and also they already did this repair and it came back only 15k miles later? I planned to keep this truck for a long time, and really do love it other than the fact it's embarrassing to start because its so loud. I'm also a bit leery about taking it to the same dealership, but I realize another one is just going to want to charge me. Are there any Ford reps on here that could suggest anything? This truck has under 50k miles and this is the second time already. Thanks in advance.

Also would anyone happen to have the original TSB number for the rattle?

I would call Ford customer service. With you only being 2 months out of warranty they might split the cost with you.

My rattle came back as well and my dealer has a 1 year 12k mile warranty on any work they do, then 2 years unlimited miles warranty on work that you pay for. I paid $100 deductible for mine to be repaired and according to their service manager that counts as being paid for and it will be covered a 2nd time. I'm just waiting on them to fit me in and get it done.

Ok, sounds like the plan is to go to the dealership and see what they can do. If not, I may talk to Ford or another area dealership and see what they can do. Sucks regardless, I planned to keep this truck for a long time, and its still low miles for all this.

I bet you didn't get the full TSB upgrade, as in VCTs and all. I'm willing to bet the dealer cut a corner somewhere and that's why you're back.

I've been complaining about this same rattle for a couple of years but the dealer service department could never replicate the rattle whenever I brought the truck in for service. Now at 78K miles they agree there is a rattle. The fix is estimated to cost $3,700 - what happens if this is left alone and not fixed? how bad does it get?

edit: I should add that the rattle seems only to occur in cool/cold weather conditions after the truck has sat overnight.

Damn, I think I just heard this start in mine with 70k miles on it. Not all the time but first cold start exactly like TSB. Thank GOD i bought for extended warranty.
