Default 2013 Ecoboost 3.5L High Pitched Whistle on Acceleration

Have a 2013 Ecoboost 3.5L FX4 with 200k Km's currently. Recently i have started hearing a high pitched squeal whistle like noise when i accelerate.

its when its under load when you put your foot down from standing still or when pinning it to pass on the highway.

Light acceleration when already moving does not product this sound. It sounds like a vacuum leak but cannot find out where from as I cannot replicate when still. Only when driving under load. Even with brakes on cannot replicate.

If you put your foot right to the floor it makes the squeal and then shudders and misfires. Have searched forums and internet everywhere and cannot find the same problem.

find the video on youtube here:

help is greatly appreciated.

Did you by any chance notice your lie-o-meter shows very good MPG when you get on the engine to make the sound? I have never seen this before.

Some things to check:
vacuum lines to turbo solenoids
proper wastegate function
proper blowoff valve function

I think these can get a leak in the diaphragm and make that sound.

Yeah I think it is a vacuum lime somewhere. It sure is what it sounds and feels like. I’ll check around there this weekend and see what I can find, thanks

If you suspect a vacuum line, check the ones on the piping up front. There are a few that connect to the charge air pipes. Folks have found cracks too, so inspect the ends closely.

Could be an exhaust leak as well. Mine sounded similar.

OP has the units set to L/100KMs which is backwards for US folks. For metric, the higher the number, the better.

Ahh that explains it. I was watching the video and looking at the RPMs vs the lie-o-meter and I was like WTF?$@%!

I think you mean the lower the better--5L/100km is better than 10L/100km.

I have a 2013 3.5 ecoboost and it has recently started making the exact same whistle under hard acceleration. I was hoping you had found out what the cause and fix is.

It turned out to be the rubber gasket that holds the different parts of the air intake tunes together. You can see the plastic tubes on top
of engine compartment then goes down. The rubber gasket was loose and causing the whistle. I just put rubber hose clamps over to tighten it up. A common issue I found in research was the noise could also be from bad exhaust manifold gasket from warped manifolds
