2012 Lariat Eco, Hwy MPG Low
Hey guys,
I just picked up a 2012 Lariat, with 3.5 ECO 3.55 Rear End, only had 5400 miles on it.
Absolutely love the truck its completely loaded, Sony Nav,MoonRoof, Lariat Plus Pkg,Chrome Pkg,TailgateStep,Trailer Brake, Heated/AC Seats. Truck is more loaded than some Platinums I was looking at.
Regardless, sticker says 15/21 for gas milage ( ya i know these aren't completely dead on.) But I took a small road trip in Illinois flat stretch of I-55 about 130 each direction. I drove it EXTREMELY conservative, drove around 70 mph. It was calm out not windy. Drove with and without the cruise on, never accelerated heavily , even let off gas and coasted on any incline I could.
Even with all that I was only getting around 16.7-16.8.
I would never of normally drove like this, I babied it as much as I could to get anywhere near 19-20 and never really came close at any point in the trip, maybe coasting down an incline.
Any ideas? I know make take it to the dealer and have them look it over, but dealers sometimes seem to like to blow these things off it seems.
Anyway love the truck, but just wondering, why Im getting low MPG, if I would of drove it "NORMAL" Im sure would of been closer to high 14's low 15's. Which is lower than estimated town milage.

0.9% is for suckers!
I've got 12,000 miles on my Eco 4x4 crew with 373s and 20s.
I can get 18+ avg for a tank ( city/freeway) and more than that if I drove hwy. I'm usually below 70 but depending on where the green "Eco" line is I go faster. You gotta watch it pretty close and get about 5,000 more miles on it

I get 20.5-21.0 on the highway if I stay at 65 mph or slightly less. 18-18.5 if I drive 75 with no wind. In heavy wind I get about 17.5-18 mpg. In town I get 14. My '09 with the 5.4 would never get that good.

I noticed you have a SCT tune on your truck, were you getting that milage pre-tune or did the tune help out quite a bit?

I got 20 mpg on my recent road trip to NY over 1600 miles...on PREMIUM fuel. On 87 octane that mileage dropped to 16.7.
What octane are running? My truck likes 93 and saves me about .06 cents per mile running it. I average 15.7 in the city on the 93 and 14.7 on the 87 so not much difference in the city. See what the trucks like. BTW, I only have 3,200 miles on mine.
