Doesn't apply here.

Only concern I had was air backing into exhaust and confusing o2 sensors. But your spacer is well past the o2, so prob ok.

If the leak was before the o2, then you would start having problems. Same thing as a vacuum leak or exhaust leak.

I am concerned about the exhaust fumes under the truck, as others have mentioned.

I've been thinking about it. It's also after the catalytic converters. So it probably doesn't even have an effect on the exhaust tuning like I originally thought. Or if it did it's very minimal, as the pressure pulses would have to make there way up through the catalytic converters.

I still think it's a laughably cheap way to do it. But not unprecedented. If you look at hot-rods alot of them have exhaust turn-outs. A Y just after the headers that has a cap over one side. the other side going to the muffler. When they wanna be loud, they just remove the cap. In effect this is exactly like that. The only difference is those hot rods didn't have computer controlled fuel injection to compensate for the increased flow through the motor.

If it were me, I'd put in a proper turn-out like I just described. Custom exhaust work is cheap. But it is your truck, and you sound like you understand all of the possible negatives and positives to go along with it.

On the note of custom exhaust work, there is such a thing as a butterfly valve controlled Y that you can put in an exhaust pipe. It's actuated by vacuum, so at high vacuum it's one way, at low vacuum it's another. Using this you can set it up to be quiet at highway speeds and loud when you floor it by bypassing the muffler at low vacuum. Jeep guys used to do this. If I remember correctly it was a specific chevrolet part number. I can't find my notes on it anymore though.

That'd be cool too.

I just went with a really simple custom system, mandrel bends, no muffler. Turned down, with the end just at the height of the leaf spring. And right next to the leaf spring. That way the exhaust is protected by the spring and shackle assembly.
And painted black. Nothing is visible from the outside, unless you bend down. and look closely.

Total cost: $130

That's why I love custom systems. It's more than the $2 washers. But I am happier with it.

Like I said, it sounds like Jonbar knows what he's doing, and it's his truck. So nothing more to say really.

3 mods posting in one thread? That has to be a record.

And I truly do want to see the teletubby Avatar mod... but not on my profile, thanks.

Can I have my 10 minutes back that I just spent reading this thread?

Oh... cool mod... um, yeah... just not for me

I'll try to get some over the weekend. It's always dark when I go to and get home from work. And I don't have space in the garage for the truck.

I basically have the this setup. I went to a muffler shop and was going to get a super 40 series flow master but I asked the what people have been putting on these trucks. He said that just deleting the muffler would sound good. I was worrying bout it making the backfiring pop sound. But with the cats it doesn’t. It sounds the best in my opinion. And if I do want add a muffler I still can with the pipes coming out both sides. No drone.

Ok so I did mine this morning. When I got the bolts out and put the washers on the bolt I started looking at it and but the time I tightened down the bolts it looked like it would have been touching and wouldn't have had the gap. So i put the bolts in and just tightened it down a few little bit with no washers. Went and drove around and didn't have any rattle so I'm going to leave it. I love the sound. But I've had several muscle cars the were straight piped or just headers. So nothing bothers me.
