2012 Eco and CAI
I am looking to add a cai to my 2012 eco. Either AIRRAID or AFE STAGE 2.
Could there be any negative effects by just adding a CAI and no change in the exhaust ??
I am looking at the possible minimal fuel mileage gain because at my currect calculations , every little bit would help.(hand calculated out to be 9.2 mpg US)

9.2 mpg? wow that sounds really low for an EB... if you do the CAI & exhaust, Ford will very likely ding you on the warranty. they have an internal memo on this they will void out the warranty if they find these parts or see the waste gate has been modified if the truck is ever brought in for service. their claim is that the higher airflow overspins the turbos & causes failures.

I have an Airaid CAI (just airbox and synthetic dry filter) and all I gained was noise - sounds good at WOT. No HP gain to speak of and a slight drop in mileage. I have less than 200 miles on it, and I am taking it off. It is for sale. It cost me $253.00 from AutoAnything.

i have an airaid on mine. i gained 1 mpg average(if you keep your right foot out of it). it feels like it gained a couple horses. and it was way cheaper than the afe. i say go for it!

I put the AFE2 intake on mine in August, made ZERO difference to the fuel economy, only thing is the turbo and wastegates can be heard much more.
When I put the high-flow downpipes on it helped the fuel mileage by a solid 1 mpg. But this was done in the winter and the cold temps don't help economy at all, so its likely even better than that come warmer weather.
Biggest improvement in performance and economy was switching from 87 to 91 fuel. 91 has no ethanol in it, and has made a significant improvement in mileage (1.5mpg) and seat of the pants performance.
Next is a tune and the catback exhaust... still undecided on which tune, probably an SCT if they can make it work with the Android app. For catback, likely going to stick to a 3 or 3.5" system, as quiet as I can get it. I am after flow and not noise.

I have heard from several people that you really wont gain much with an intake if you don't have exhaust. Makes sense, I guess. I felt a little with just the cai, not neck snapping or tire frying, but it def breathes easier. Exhaust will be next for me, then a tune

I've also noticed about 1 mpg average with my intake. I put exhaust on it and noticed nothing but better sound. Over all I am happy with my mods on my 11 Eco. Going to be selling my air raid intake for a stage two in the spring likly.
