Default 2012 do I up Grade brakes if i go to 35" tires & towing ??

Hi Guys,

I have 2012 5.0,3.55 3" leveling kit 34" BFG Rugged Terrians T/A's

I plan to put on BFG KM2's 35"/ 17" or 325's/20" will I need to up grade my rotor's and caliper's, because of the extra tire weight from 53lbs to 72lbs, as it stands I have no problems at all with braking with the 34.1" tires stock rims 20"

The Plan is to get rid of my 8' Camper and 1ton diesel, and switch back to a RV Trailer or a 5th wheel again, I miss the room and the slide out. Now with more Grandkidlets on the way, time to get them out doors and throw the Fkin Video games out for the summer.........LOL

Will I need to do an up grade as I plan on towing a 24' RV travel trailer

Has anyone Up graded and if so how much did it change Braking
Im in Vancouver ,BC we have lots of hills and Mountian driving....

Grant

You should be fine with 35's as long as your trailer brakes are working properly.

What kind of prices are they giving you? With 305/55/20 trail grapplers you have to push a lot harder on the brake pedal and the lack of braking power is really evident. If the upgrade wasn't that costly I think it would give you peace of mind. As for towing I don't notice as much because of the trailer brakes.

Probably not, but you will be downgrading your tow capacity.

35" inch tires, 3.55 gears, and you want to tow a travel trailer? I would seriously rethink parts of that plan.

Thanks for the Info!

If I get my new Trailer it will be any where from 3,600lbs to 4,500lbs
if that truck can't tow that, guess I better trade it in for F250, NOT!!.lol..I will change the gearing later if I have to, but only going out 4-8 times a yr, with the RV Trailer...

and my car trailer 22' will be hauling our Quad's.......rated for 4ton....
I use to tow it behind my 1ton diesel I have......

I realise the trailer brakes will do most of the braking for the trailer , just wondered because of the way they make and size the brake system, if its even nessary to change them.....other then a piece of mind...

I doubt you notice a difference in anything. It's always a good idea to upgrade brakes but your stock ones will be just fine. Big slotted rotors and 6 piston calipers do look sexy though.

What kind of brakes are you thinking about? I have looked at ebc and they are expensive, but probably not as high as wilwood's or brembos with replacement calipers.

I was thinking brembos, havn't really looked at any others....depands what my buddy can bring in for me from his suppliers...I get it at his cost....

Brembo is pretty pricey

I checked out EBC and I think thats what I'll get if I change them, rotors 13.8" drilled & sloted made for mud offroading = 439.00 front free shipping
Pads -EBC greenstuff- 6000/7000= $107.18
Caliper covers =$200,00
