2012 5.0 FX4 engine randomly shuts down while driving
I have been battling an issue for now two months. First issue was attempting to start truck and upon turning the key nothing would happen. Dash and everything lights up but engine wouldn't turn over. You could then take key out of ignition place it back it and truck would start perfectly.
Then the engine started shutting down while driving down the road. No pattern to shut down. I could be going 30Mph, 50Mph, or setting at a stop light and it acts like the key is turned off. Once again, place in park turn, take key out place it back in and it starts right up.
I've taken to dealer they have replaced BCM, ignition switch, ran diagnostics on all computers, checked connectors between computers AND IT STILL randomly shuts down.
I've spent over $1,700 on this thing and am now faced at taking it back to the dealer. Anyone have an idea what the issue might be?

How's she goin' eh?
Could be the start of this happening https://www.f150forum.com/f38/2009-2...-issue-372139/
Or this https://www.f150forum.com/f38/my-tru...ied-me-371007/
Or could be a loose ground. Check those, it might be snug but if you hit a bump it loosens up.

Just got giggles. Check you fuel pump fuse. #27.

Call me crazy but if it was related to fuel pump wouldn't the engine sputter or lose power before it dies? Also, it will restart immediately after it shuts down. No cranking waiting for fuel to get to motor it just starts like normal after the shut down.
You are driving down the road and it acts like you turn the key off. No hesitation, no sputtering, no loss of power, no odd sounds, no hitting a bump before loss ... the engine just randomly turns off.

If it's the relay or fuse for the relay. No.
you've already put a lot of money down. I get it, and I'd be extremely frustrated too.
The #27 fuse relocation kit is $15 and the relay above the spare tire is about $40.
The fuse takes about an hour to relocate.

Let's go with the assumption it's the fuel relay.
The dealer made a comment that something appeared to be causing a drop in communication to one of the computers and shutting the motor down.
Does that fuel relay "talk" with the system computers? If so, that could be my issue.

Look above your spare tire. The relay/actuator/whatever is made of an aluminum casing, your crossmember is steel. It corrodes. That's what causes failure. If it looks corroded it probably is.
Look in your fusebox, if fuse #27 looks burn it needs replacing.
I would start with those two locations, id also put money down on one of them.

I'm scheduled to take it to dealer tomorrow and will be asking them to check out the relay that's been mentioned.

They're gonna charge you to look at it. Save another $150 and look under your bed.
