Did you happen to buy it as a CPO? 100k powertrain warranty with CPO purchase.

Default Thread resurrection for a 5.0 tick.

Bringing this thread back from the dead (2016)... so I have a 2012 5.0 with 94k miles..... this tick is heard all around the front and side of truck. In the video I am on the drivers side and then duck under neath the truck. Has anyone found a definitive answer to what this tick is and should I be concerned?

Tbh I don’t know what it is but apparently it is very common. My 2012 5.0 with 145K has been doing it since I bought it. Seems to only do it at a cold idle. Hasn’t gotten any worse. No other issues. Just the noise. Very strange.

mine ticks like crazy nothing on start up but when it warms it does it, I've replaced the whole top end, timing chain kit and more, transmission, just did new coils and plugs and still have it. Just wondering what u came up with.

I’ve done the same thing as far as the timing kit, still have the tick. It hasn’t gotten any worse but I have read somewhere that one of the cylinders could be scored or the piston rings could be leaking ... honestly , I have no clue at This point. I still have less than 100k on my truck but it has been ticking since about 60k.. currently have 94k on her. Sorry couldn’t help out anymore but I’m lost on the topic. Unless it gets worse I’m not tearing the engine down any further.

You have your power train warranty will 100k , I would press the issue at ford, I've spent 10k trying to figure out that annoying noise lol, it runs like a taped ape but noise will drive me insane and sounds like its gonna blow up lol!

Mine started doing this at 90k, but as there are several people describing slightly different things here, i will be specific.

1) It's a hot idle sound only, not heard on cold start.
2) It does come from the passenger bank of the engine, it's louder/more noticeable from the passenger wheel well or up toward that head when recorded on video.
3) It can't really be easily heard with the hood open and leaning into the engine bay, from there you can clearly hear the injectors which are a clicking sound and more more rapid than the slow paced ticking sound from the passenger bank.

I'll be replacing the belts, idler and two tensioners soon, hoping for some success there, i'll be able to feel the water pump pulley for play where they're off.
