2012 5.0 added wrong coolant
my engine suddenly got hot, and I found a plastic bag(trash) covering my radiator. not sure what that does.
but i looked, and my coolant was basically empty (40,000 miles on truck).
all i had in the truck box was Napa antifreeze.
it said Ford ESE-M97B44-A on the bottle.
i looked in my manual and it says to use motorcraft specialty orange in the USA and (WSS-M97B44-D Canada).. the stuff i used is NAPA, and its orange, but i know that doesn't mean much..
am i screwed? what should i do now?

yep, screwed. burn the truck to the ground.
go buy the right stuff and flush the napa stuff out with the garden hose. drain the system and fill it with the ford stuff.
if you're really picky use jugs of distilled water from the store instead of the hose.
the newer coolant plays ok together, just don't mix the green and the orange it will gel up over time.

lol ok, il just sell the truck for parts now.
you say that the 2 can play ok together, could I just funnel the reservoir until empty, and refill with correct stuff? instead of flushing the whole thing?

The coolant you used from Napa meets Ford requirements for your truck. Nothing needs to be done.

sorry, I put the cart before the horse, grab the owners manual and look under fluids and capacities. see if the required coolant is the ESE-M97B44-A number you mentioned above. Mine says use m97b44-D2. looking up the D2 it specifically says do not mix with -A.

if you just filled the degas bottle then technically you could drain it and refill it w/ just some of it mixing in with the rest of the system.

D2 indicates diluted mix. D is concentrated.

As I would tell any of my customers.... if in a bind, and not sure what coolant to add..... just add water. The worse you are doing is diluting.... nothing bad will happen, unless you dilute to the point where the freezing point is too high based on where you are at that very moment.
Once you are out of the bind.... easy to get the system back to full strength....

From the Prestone site:
For any car or light duty truck. Works with any color antifreeze. Will not void warranty. Up to 5 years or 150,000 miles of protection**.
I believe the color has nothing to do with the product. That being said I probably would not choose antifreeze formulated for GM. I do believe that's a different product all together.
If what you put in meets the stated requirement you're good.
