2011 XLT Rear End Whine On Decel

If you have fairly keen hearing, I would guess that some people could hear the rear-end. If you have aftermarket tires on your truck that is also a very good candidate for making noise that you normally would not hear with stock tires. Depending on the tread design, tires can make a different sound on acceleration than they make on deceleration.

The rear end does have a slight whine to it on a decel that you can hear but out of everyone that has ridden in my truck no one has noticed it except me. If its overly loud then you might have an issue but if its faint it probably is normal.

Hi Guys -
My .02 cents worth -
If you hear a noise out of your differential like that the dealer should tear it down and repair it - pronto, under warranty.
That sturdy 9.75 differential has been around since the earth cooled, and they just don't have a problem with whining.
In another thread, I've been talking about the project of swapping out my conventional differential with an Eaton True True Trac, and after 36,000 miles, including some hard work, the carrier bearings still look like new on the old carrier, and everything else was still fitted.
I only put in new carrier bearings because I didn't want to risk damaging the original bearings by pulling them off.
That synthetic lube that they took out of it seems thin compared to the dinosaur oil they put back in it, so I suspect it'l be easy to hear a problem.
After all was aid and done, I could have swapped out the carrier myself, because when the Ford Guru put it back together, the original shims were perfect as far as clearance/backlash/whatever else they check -
Good Luck.

2013's can have the 6.2 in almost any trim now... I know it's available in the Lariats and FX lines, at least. Not sure if XLT can get it.

The Ecoboost was in the Taurus SHO in 2010.

Thanks for all the input. I figured that something wasnt right I was just unsure if others were having the same issue and getting the same BS line from the dealer saying is was normal.
Also I was unsure if something else could be causing that kind of whine and it not be the rear end.
