Default 2011 Transmission shift points

Not sure if I have an issue or not since I've been driving standard tranny equipped trucks for 25 years. My truck will not shift into 6th gear until 64 MPH. (by the way I have 4.10 gears) The first five gears shift smoothly and when easy on the throttle I'm in 5th by 35 mph, but 6th doesn't come until 64 no matter how hard or soft I accelerate. I can manually shift into 6th at about 37mph. If I use tow/haul mode it shifts into 6th at about 45mph. Took it to the dealer today and their chart on the service writers computer says it should shift 5-6 at around 45-50mph(I was peeking over his shoulder). So they checked the truck in and put it on their computer. No codes indicated. They had an update for the engine controller(can't remember the letters they called it) which they installed. No update available for the transmission controller but told me the engine controller update wipes the "learned" info clean from the tranny controller. They test drove it and it is still the same. They said they think this is normal and so far have had no one with any issues with this tranny but are contacting Ford to see whats up. He even suggested that there may be a typo in the computerized service manual? Said they will contact me tomorrow and sent me and my truck on our way. Sorry for the long post but at what speed does your truck shift 5-6? And please indicate motor and gear info on your truck.
Thanks,
Don

Had 2010 4.6 3v would shift to 6th right at 45 with light right foot. Have now 2011 eco 3.73 gears like 46~ (just over 45)

The book is right.

Now, if I were the mechanic I'd would have at least flashed the tcm even if I had to use the same file to rule that out. Not on ford, but in my business I've seen stranger things. (Caterpillar)

Wow. Over 80 views and only one response? Was hoping to have a little more feedback in case the stealer tried to tell me that this is normal. Anyway, thanks for the input chalybs. I do appreciate it!

Mine seems just the opposite. Mine will shift into 6th gear around 50MPH unless in tow mode. Then it is around 60MPH it allows it to shift to 6th. If I read your statement correctly, i think your transmission is shifting funny.

I haven't been active on any F150 forums lately. I just stumbled upon this thread today. My truck did the exact same thing and it really seems wrong. Does your truck shift into 6th gear at 45 mph while in T/H mode like mine did (and into 6th at 64mph while in normal drive)? I even met with a Ford engineer at one point for him to test drive my truck and he agreed. After that I never heard from that engineer again. Instead there was another engineer that told the dealership that it was a normal characteristic of the 4.10 equiped trucks, so that it could mimic the shift patterns of the Raptor while in Off-Road Mode (activated by a switch only found on a Raptor)

Read the exact response contained in an email from Kurt Nickerson (6f Transmission Calibration Supervisor):
http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/10...-6th-gear.html

Ford's inability to even make an attempt to remedy this problem led me to trade the truck off within a few months of purchase.

I drove 6 different 2011 F150 trucks (5.0 and 3.5 EB, 3.55 and 3.73, even a 6.2 Raptor) and the only one that did this is the 4.10 equiped FX4 Ecoboost.

I PM'ed another member a while ago, ajkelley, who has a 4.10 EB FX4 and experiences the same shifting characteristics.

Sounds like tow haul mode is on.

But that is just it, it shifts into 6th at 64mph when NOT in T/H mode and while IN T/H mode it will shift itself into 6th at 45mph. All other shifting characteristics when in tow/haul are just the way it should be when in T/H, progressive engine braking adjusting down shift points when applying brakes and delaying all 1-5 upshifts. But, right after shifting to 5th at around 42-44mph it will jump to 6th at 45mphh, again, WHILE IN TOW/HAUL.

The transmission will allow the driver to manually select (select shift transmission option) 6th gear when NOT in T/H above 45 mph yet under 64mph and it will continue to hold 6th until enough throttle is applied to make it downshift. Then it will not shift back to 6th until it is manually activated through the select shift, tow/haul mode is activated, or the truck reaches 64mph.
