So from what i could gather the main differences are:
The lariat gives you:
Cooled seats
Universal garage door opener
Center arm rest in rear seat
Chrome / wood finishes (vs. black)
It's about $900 more for these features (all other things configured equal), and none are available on the FX4.
The lariat gives you:

It also gives you the [option] of the 40-20-40 front seat, and column shifter, which allows six occupants.

Me too. 402A "Luxury pkg" gives me everything except the rear heated seats and center console for the rear seats. I have the heated/cooled seats for the front.
I had the same questions as the O.P., and came to the conclusion that the real difference between the FX4 and the Lariat was the exterior chrome (grill, bumpers, etc.)
I hate chrome...
