Dear Anthony,
My name is Marnelli from the Ford Customer Relationship Center and I have received your email regarding your inquiry on why the warranty claim on your 2011 Ford F-150 has been denied.
I am truly sorry to hear that your warranty claim has been denied. I have personally checked and verified our records and see that according to the Digital Imaging's decision, the corrosion found on your vehicle may be due to the lack of maintenance or from stone impacts. The reasons stated by the Digital Imaging are not covered under warranty. Also, the backside of the bumper is lightly chrome plated. It also has a protective coating that reduces, but does not eliminate environmental exposure. Likewise, corrosion on the backside of the bumper is not warrantable.
I am sorry to be the bearer of this decision, however, the decision has been made and I as a CRC Representative cannot alter this.
Again, I am sorry if I cannot offer any alternate response that would be amicable to your satisfaction. Thank you for taking the time to write to us.
Sincerely,
Marnelli

Cleaning under the hood today and in the exact same place as Tonys truck I found two small areas where it is rusting. I couldn't believe a brand new truck had rust and plan to take to dealer this week as well... will take pictures and post..

That is some bull ****. Stones can not come all the way up there when the truck only has 4k. Ford needs to work on the trucks and designed them with better made parts because I have had to replace my 4x4 at 30000, my diff lock at 35000, and I have had the transmission worked on too. I have driven fords all of my life and I always will. Also how to u care and maintain the inside of a bumper?

Took 320 sandpaper and removed most of it. Tried to paint with Auto Rust-Oleum but wouldn't stick. Must be galvanized steel or a treated aluminum.

Ok, I went and checked both the front and back bumpers on my two month old truck. On the exact same place as yours (OP), there are a couple of surface rust spots about the size of a dime. On my truck, these spots can almost be rubbed off with my fingers.
In my case I will simply clean it off and fix it, so it will not be an issue for me.
Basically, both the front and back bumpers appear to be painted black on the back side. On the front bumper it appears this section may not be coated or painted at all. Most likely an attachment area for chroming and/or painting at the factory.
BTW, there is no way for rocks to hit it, and the front side is covered with Black Plastic for that section of the bumper. Nothing will ever hit it - unless you crash into a brick wall.
This obviously can become an issue with any of the chemical deicing treatments reach it, and they will during the winter months. That can become a real problem. My last Super Duty was nearly getting in bad shape because of deicing treatments. I wish the State would stop doing that non-sense, it serves no real purpose, cost the Millions, and destroys hundreds of thousands cars in the State.
