2011 F150 Sync Module Replacement
Hello all, this is my first post but I have been lurking around the forum for a few weeks. There seem to be a lot of helpful people on here and I'm hoping to get pointed in the right direction. Thanks in advance!
I purchased a 2011 FX2 SCREW a few weeks ago and love everything about the truck...except for the completely non-functioning SYNC system!
When I press the Phone button (steering wheel or dash) nothing happens at all. Pressing the Aux button results in the radio display flashing to SYNC then immediately back to whatever it was on previously. Voice command button does nothing.
I have tried the fuse pull, wait 10-15 minutes trick with no luck. I've also pulled the battery negative and left it for a few hours...no effect. So I am assuming my APIM module is bad. Not sure how to confirm that diagnosis though without going to the dealer.
So my questions are:
1. Can I replace the APIM module without going to the dealer? I've seen lots of threads about replacing APIM modules but they all seem to refer to SYNC 2 or 3 systems with touch screens. Mine is a basic system (SYNC 1?) without a screen.
2. If I replace the APIM module with the same part number, will it still need to be programmed?
3. Should I just nix the SYNC system and go aftermarket? Not looking to spend a ton of money ($500 max.). I want to retain (actually add since it doesn't work!) bluetooth phone, music streaming, steering wheel controls...etc. Not sure if fixing SYNC or going aftermarket is the easier route.

1. Should be programmable with Forscan.
2. Yes, you would almost certainly need to program it, Unless you happen to buy one programmed to your exact features, which is more likely used, I believe. Part number would not necessarily define this.
3. Many people would say yes. But, depends on what you want in the HU. Many people want features that cost more than that. It can be done with a lower end HU.
