2011 F150 larger tire programming at the dealer
I have heard online that the Ford service computer tool (I believe it is called an IDS/VCM) no longer has the capability to program for non-stock diameter (ie: larger) tires on 2011 F150's.
I have also heard that several people have had their dealer reprogram their 2011 for larger tires, presumably with the Ford IDS/VCM.
So, here is the question:
1. My dealer told me he could not reprogram my 2011 for larger tires.
2. My dealer did reprogram my 2011 for larger tires, and I have verified that the speedomer / odometer is correct using a GPS or mile markers.
3. My dealer says he reprogramed my 2011 for larger tires, but I havent verified it.

None of the above. I was with the tech doing an update and he offered to check the programming for the tire size and found that he could not manually put in a size larger than the largest stock tire. This was on my 2009 FX4, in spring of 2010. That said, going to 33" from 32" or whatever is a small percentage difference, means almost nothing speed wise (1mph at 70mph or so)

My dealer told me he could not reprogram my 2011 for larger tires.
He told me that his scan tool was only capable of programming my 2011 FX4 for the tires that are available for a 2011 FX4, which would inlude 275/55/20 or 275/65/18 .

I haven't got it done but have spoken to my dealer and he said they will reprogram up to 36" tires. I'm getting my Trail Grapplers tomorrow and will be taking it after to the dealer to get it done later in the week.

On my 2011 Screw, I went from the factory rubber (275/65-18) to 275/70-18 BFGs (1" diameter increase).
I spoke to the "Transmission Guy" at the dealership who incidentially had done the exact same tire swap on his personal truck and said the 3.1% difference would have no effect on the shift points and said not to touch it (speedo recalibration) as it would be a waste of time and NOT necessary in my case. However, he did not say if it was 'possible' or not.
850 miles later, I can't tell any difference and I'll deal with the speedo being off 3.1%.

My dealership told me they could not reprogram for the tires I put on the truck because they were not a factory size. Because of the huge loss in MPGs due to the tires (7mpg on the highway), I've since gone back to the factory size, and stored the other tires in my shed....will trade them in when it comes time to buy new tires.
By the way, OEM tires on my truck are 275/65R/18s.....the tires that I put on, that caused me that huge MPG drop were 275/70R/18s. (the big difference was the construction of the tires.....10ply tread/4 ply sidewall on the 70s, versus 6ply tread/2 ply sidewall on the OEMs.)

The statement, "larger tires" is a bit ambiguous. My 2010 XLT Screw came with P265/60 R18's and I have installed a set of 275/55/20's from a 2010 FX4. The service department computer has the ability to reprogram the system in your truck as long as the tires are one of the optional tires sizes that came on one of Ford's F150 trucks. All of the optional tires are listed in the F150 brochure.
