Default 2011 F150 Fails to Start: Park Indicator

I have a 2011 F150 4x4 with the 5.0L that randomly fails to start. I notice that whenever the no-start condition appears, the "P" fails to illuminate the typical orange color. In fact, the orange gear indicator fails to illuminate regardless of which position is selected.

If I shift the transmission into Neutral, despite the no-start condition, the truck will roll downhill. If I remove the key several times and/or come back in a few minutes, the orange indicator is back behind the P. Then, the truck starts and drives normally.

Is there a switch that is sticking or failing? My truck has the steering column mounted shifter. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Default I am having the same problem

Sometimes starts sometimes wont. (2011 F150 Eco boost )This started happening about a week ago. Keep trying and eventually it will startup. Then once it starts I cannot make it not start except waiting overnight or some period of time later. Then it will happen again. Battery is only 3 months old but does not seem to be the issue. When I keep attempting to start it and it eventually starts, I can immediately shut off and on again and again with no battery failure. I also noticed no orange light on the shift indicator. Shifter is also on the column. Any Ideas? relay etc

I have the same issue. 2011 with a V6. The orange light doesn't come on in the shif indicator and it won't start. Wait 5 minutes and come back and it's fine for 2 weeks. If you guys figure out what's going on let me know so I can fix it before I get stranded.

Just curious. Have you tried moving the shifter from park to neutral or something then back again?

Yes when I move the shifter to neutral the transmission goes into neutral but the orange gear indicator still does not come on. I will not turn over in neutral either. I move the shifter through all the gears and press the manual shift +- buttons but nothing comes on. I took the key in and out several times and got the same thing with no shift indicator light and no start. Come back 5 minutes later and the second I insert the key it glows orange showing its in park and starts normal. It's happened 5 times now and they are at least a week apart.

I've still got this problem, and it's like a few others describe. If my truck sits overnight, the engine will not crank because the gear indicator won't glow orange in park (or any other gear).

My Check Engine Light lit today, so I want to get a scan tool to see if there may be a code to help point me in the right direction.

I've the exact thing happen twice. Come back 5 minutes later. Starts, no problems. TODAY, however, while driving approx. 65 mph, I felt a downshift and the orange wrench came on. I also noticed that the gear indicator lights were not on. I tried the tow/haul button....nothing. I drove on into town to the auto supply to get them to run a check on it. I pulled into the parking lot, put it in park...IMMEDIATELY, the wrench went off, the gear indicator light came on, showing park and the tow/haul button worked. Go figure. The guy inside suggested checking the tranny fluid. There isn't a way to check it on 2011 F150 with V6 EcoBoost. So, I cranked it up and drove home. No downshifts, no wrench light, no tow/haul button problems.......Does that sound familiar to anyone? I'm taking it in tomorrow, but if there are not problems, there won't be any codes I'm guessing....

I am having the same problem. Does anyone know what causes it or better yet how to fix it? Did you have any issues if you continued to drive it for a while until I can figure this out and get it fixed. Thanks in advance
