2011 F150 with eco/ help tuneup ?
Hello, my father has a 2011 W/Ecoboost. with just over 60000 miles
ford dealer said it needs a COMPLETE Tuneup ( $800+ )
something doesnt seem right on this? any thoughts.
He took it in because a check engine light and they said no codes were found.
I havent looked at the list of parts, etc yet. but if the light comes on after this is done - they will be wanting more money.

*update
went there and they got the price down to$400 and some change.
And said if the light goes on there would not be another charge to look at the truck.
We shall see.

What's involved in a "complete" tune-up? I recently did spark plugs in my '13 (75k miles) and it took me about an hour to do them. Total cost from Amazon was about $45. An air filter is about $15 and takes less than 5 minutes to replace.
For $400, what else are they doing besides these two things?

Yeah we need more info. What are they charging you for? What is included in the tune-up?
What is your dad doing when the CEL comes on? He can have it scanned at an auto parts store for codes.

I will get the list/invoice tomorrow from my dad on this. He picked the truck up tonight and said it definetly runs better. Not sure what they did for the Complete Tuneup.
Originally $800+ I thought was really really high. I will find out and let you all know what the dealer did for the $400..
I know he did take it in last week and the code that came up I thought was for a sensor near the convertor..
I sure hope they did more than plugs and a filter.

Spark plugs go frequently in these trucks... Coil packs occasionally (but that will be extra). The coil extension tubes on the 2011 failed frequently, likely already replaced though.
Other than that, your talking oil change, filter change, and lots of 'inspections'. Not really alot of maintenance on these trucks other than frequent oil changes and semi-frequent spark plug changes, both easy to do.

I checked out what the Dealer did for the $400 ( total was mid 400 )
Plugs/wires/injector cleaner..
and labor of course..
I think he was def. overcharged. But my dad is happy - truck runs a LOT better.
they said they took off the $120 inspection charge / which if he walked he would have to had to pay..

Also as far as I know, ford still doesn't have an approved injector cleaner for the ecoboost. Injector cleaning on these can actually kill a turbo real quick. I know CRC has one that they say is ok (CRC GDI Injector Cleaner), but I don't think it is ford approved.
