2011 F150 Eco Boost Advice
Hi everyone
Very new to this...Ford. I have been a Toyota owner for the past 21years and I am considering a 2011 F150 Eco boost and need some help/advice. My question is should I make the change?
My Background info
- 20 years with Tacoma trucks
- Family owns a Toyota dealership...really feeling the love when I suggested buying a ford
- 3 kids and the oldest is complaining about room in the Tacoma
- small trailer to tow for camping 3500lbs
-2007 taco is paid off, no payments
What I love about the Ford F150 Eco boost
-better gas mileage than Tacoma and Ford is a full size truck
-great room ink the back for the kids
-lots of extras in the truck
-my Tacoma 17inch winter tires will fit on the F150
My worries about buying the 2011 F150 Eco boost
-the first is what I have been ready about on line that the valves gummy up and no real solution from Ford
-fear because this will be my first Ford and worried that I buy it and a month or so later have major issues...I have no history with Ford and am very apprehensive. Then my wife kills me and everyone tells me "I told you so...don't buy Ford"
Please feel free to be honest with your advice and opinions, I would love to hear from 2011 F150 Eco Boost owners and their experiences.
Thanks for you help and feedback, Jim

I'd keep the Taco if it's paid off, frankly. You can't beat no payments. That said, if you NEED a new truck, all I can say is that my last truck (a 2004 F150) has about 170K miles on it, and here's the list of stuff that broke:
- right rear blinker
- driver's side mirror
That's it.

No interest in the Tundra? Even a used one? Granted the Crewmax is expensive, but even the doublecab has a good amount of space in it. MPGs won't be as good unless you got something other than the 5.7.

The "don't buy a Ford" talk is ridiculous. I have had them for many years; Mustangs, F150s, etc. not a single one has ever left me stranded. The 2 Mustangs had well over 100k miles and zero issues other than reg wear and tear. My 2011 f150 was the same way. Only traded it for a bigger bed and outstanding deal on a 2014. It had 50k and was bulletproof. My new truck continues that trend. Love the 157" WB and Ecoboost. Damn thing weighs 6000lbs with me and some gear in it and still knocks down 17.2 mpg which is better than my old mid size Dodge Dakota. By comparison, a buddy of mine has an 08 Taco that has been in the shop a lot. First he had his tranny replaced at 100k as well as both front wheel bearings and a drive shaft. To top it off, he gets about 15 mpg. No thanks. I'll stick with my Detroit made F150!! Did I mention it will tow like a diesel? And the v6 barely breaks a sweat. It develops most of it's torque around 2k rpm!! Wait til you hear those twin turbos spool up for the first time!!

In my opinion, spending that much money so your kids have more room, I'd tell them to suck it up. I come from of a family of Dodge owners and it gets tiresome listening to the banter back and forth. But that's just me.
