2011 f-150 sc 4x4 makes poping sound when put in gear

I have the same problem with my truck and like everyone else the service manager said to just drive it. They didn't know what it was I had plenty of warranty left the truck has 18000 miles on it. The other day i was trying to figure it out myself. I got the lug wrench and was able to tighten the the lug nut a 1/4 to a 1/2 round. It has been 2 days now and haven't heard the pop. By the way i have the 18" chrome wheels that come on the XLT package.

Fix is coming very soon my friends and I will find out next week for sure what it is. Joined this forum just to inform you guys it's coming. Btw TSB says tell customers it's annoying and engineers are working on it. Feel free to private message

There's another thread on the forum that I think is referring to the same sound. My truck makes the same clunk going into reverse. Has to do with torque on the driveshaft. Another member mentioned reindexing the driveshaft worked for him. When I go in for my first service, my service manager said it can be taken care of then. I'm going to try this fix unless ford prescribes something different in the meantime Not dangerous...just annoying.

Glad the OP got such good service when he went in for his fix. The first two dealerships I tried said they couldn't figure it out so it probably isn't a problem (One added "we couldn't find a problem so we aren't going to charge you for the time to diagnois it" baaaaahahahahaha, the ***** on these guys!) while the third just said "ya, we'll see what Ford says. call back in a month or two". Mine is going in on Monday to have the (leaking) heater core replaced, so hopefully they can also address this. Maybe I can talk them into a loaner Mustang...the local track is free ths week.

Ya, I'm of the same opinion; not dangerous (yet anyway) but VERY annoying. Mine is defintiely what I would call a "pop", its not a dull thud or clunk, its loud as all hell and sounds like metal on metal. If there is anyone near me in a parking lot they always stare and laugh and point, and I just KNOW they are thinking "hahaha, my brand new Ram doesn't sound THAT bad!"
Same here, metal on metal pop, seems to be getting worse every time.
