Default 2011 EPAS failure

Went to turn at a light yesterday and the epas system went out. Almost killed me and the kids 👿. Completed my turn - barely. Pulled over. Turned car off and on and had power steering again. It happened one more time yesterday. Took to dealer this morning. 1900$ repair 😮. I’ll have to figure out the search functions and see what I can find but has anyone else had this issue? I called ford and I have a case number - they say nothing they can do to help. Frustrated!!

Yup, it happens and that is about the cost. If you are out of warranty I doubt Ford will do much. Maybe split the cost if you aren't too far out of warranty. Good luck and get your dealer to contact and argue on your behalf if you have a good relationship with them!

Tell ford to take a hike.
This part is what really ticks me off, and the reason I hate my truck. Ford quit making good trucks in 1995.
Don't even mention front struts on my dang truck. My 1995 had front shocks, cost about $30/pair!
Strut cost is 10x that ! No improvement, just makes ford money.
Ps, no US company makes a good truck any more! Spit!

However,

DYI or higher a mechanic.
Either way, turn in a complaint to
https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/owners/SearchSafetyIssues
This has happened many times, ford does not care.

I’ll find a truck from 95 and trade you straight up for your new truck that you hate. Deal?

Damn those improvements in performance and technology. I say we strike for carburetors and lap belts.

What's failing on the unit?

I have an 11 with 100k and curious if there is something I can do to prevent a failure or prolong the life of the unit...
