2011 Ecoboost F150 - always been bone stock, purchased brand new, now has 22k miles - all service updates performed and has been running fine until today...

Today I accelerated to pass a car (85% throttle-nothing crazy) and it immediately made a new noise that sounded very similar to a balloon letting out air when you pinch the end of it, sound lasted about 1 second then the truck just fell on its face. I lost what felt like nearly all boost and all power followed by lots of smoke out the pipe. ...Not enough to be a hazard for other drivers, but plenty enough for me to see in the mirrors... and enough that on my way home from work one of my co-workers felt the need to look up my number and call me on the way home! Smokes bad at idle too. If I am suuuper careful with the throttle and keep the boost out, it seems almost normal ...until any boost comes in. Then its useless.

I've searched through threads here & from Google for 3 hours before it was time to just suck it up and ask you guys for your opinions. Im out of warrenty and my previous experiences with my local dealers have been so bad I hate to throw my hard earned money at them again if I can help it.

IMO - it sounds like a boost hose has popped off and now its running so rich its coming out the tailpipe. I checked all the hoses on the intercooler itself. Everything looks mint, tight & off the dealer lot. No oil anywhere on the hoses as other posts have pointed to. My hunch is its one of the hoses on the BOV ...which might explain the leaking-balloon sound I first experienced. Where is the BOV located? Thoughts?

if it's drive line related and it sounds like it is, you have 5 years or 60K, so you should still be covered.

Well I'm of no help to your particular problem but when my wife had a turbo Jetta years ago I popped off an intercooler hose and got almost identicle symptoms.

if it were fuel from running rich, the smoke would be darker. white smoke typically signifies coolant. it seems fairly likely to me that you've got a blown turbo.

Thanks for the replys guys. 3yr -or- 36k miles. While my mileage is still under, I have far surpassed the 3-yr mark. I do not still have warranty.

Man this is not what I wanted to hear. How could that be on such a low mileage vehicle? I'm not hard on my vehicles either!

After locating what I think is the BOV and not finding any loose or damaged hoses, I had no choice but to take it to the dealer this morning. Already costing me $70 just for their "opinion" of what's wrong. I say opinion because they won't guarantee that's the problem. fingers crossed it's not a turbo. I will report back after I know.

What does the smoke in your tailpipe smell like? If its just fuel smelling, then I would bet its a boost leak. If its kind of sweet smelling, it could be coolant. It should be fairly apparent if you have a good smeller on you

**** breaks, I couldn't tell you exactly why but things happen. but as others have said, your bumper to bumper warranty has expired but you have powertrain until 5 years or 60k miles so there's no reason it shouldn't be covered.
