You are making a bet with the manufacturer of the product that you know more about said product than they do. Never a good deal under any circumstances.

There's 2 ways to look at it
A: F150 have issues yup I'll bet we will all have one so warranty could be good
B: Ford can't seem or dealers can't seem to find any issues let alone pay to fix em so warranty may be pointless.

Your choice

Hi everyone,

If you're interested in checking out ESP options, I recommend taking a peek at our ESP site: https://owner.ford.com/servlet/Conte...r/Page/ESPPage If you have any questions, you can contact our ESP folks directly at 877-794-6434.

Now that's for 6 years and 48,000 miles which more then covers my requirements.

So in 6 years you are going to have less than 48000 miles?

The thing to remember about the Ford ESP is that regardless of when you buy it, the time and miles start from the time the vehicle was actually purchased, not from when the warranty was purchased.

So in essence, the first 3 years or 36000 miles of ESP coverage are really just overlapping the bumper to bumper warranty. So in this case of 6 years or 48000 miles, you have 3 extra years of warranty but only 12000 miles once the factory warranty expires.

If you'll feel good and sleep better at night, then why not buy the extra warranty? Particularly if you have a fancier truck with more options to break?

I personally think the standard factory warranty is good enough for my XLT. The powertrain warranty is long enough for inherent problems to emerge, and I believe I can fix the other stuff myself after the full warranty runs out.

With some of the horror stories about dealer service departments I'm thinking I will just go with Geico Mechanical Breakdown Insurance.

It's relatively cheap and if anything out of warranty occurs I can go to any mechanic I want.

Default Basecare equals bang for buck

Original poster can get a 7 yr 100K $50 deductible Basecare for $985. I don't think that's half-bad. If you buy it when the car is new, its only $100 less, and of course its dead money for the first three years when you do that because the original warranty covers everything. Its transferrable and the guy who has a year left on his warranty that he can sell with his truck can get a bunch of that money back.

BaseCare covers powertrain plus the running gear on the car, you know, alternator, water pump, master cylinder, windshield wiper motors, (but not for some reason the fuel tank or radiator--I think just to give their products some product differentiation). Its the stuff that can keep you from getting to work. Its not much more than the Powertrain only warranty. For a couple of hundred bucks more you get the power windows plus the radiator and fuel tank. The Premium Care warranty covers gps and other electronic doo-dads. its a lot more. Its cheaper to take the hint and not buy that stuff.

Reviving an old thread here. I just bought from Ziegler. I checked Flood Ford, and my local dealer as well. Flood Ford was cheaper online than Ziegler, but when I called Ziegler, they told me it was $225 less if I used the pay in full option and they sent me a quote via e-mail. After reading it, I went to the link for the quote, added a couple of features and bought it.

The Premium Care “1000+” covered items plan, with key FOB replacement and interior lighting is what I chose. The 8 yr/100k mile plan with $50 deductible was $1800. I don’t know if the warranty would be cheaper if I waited longer to buy it. Whatever the case, this is what it cost me for this warranty on a 3 week old truck.

I’ve read the thread, and a lot of you have have very good luck with Fords and have never needed the extended warranty. I’ve had good Fords and not-so-good Fords, along with other brands. This is my first F-150. My guess is, if I didn’t buy the warranty, the Sync 3 would fry, and I would end up with 2 or three expensive mechanical problems at 5 yrs and a day from purchase date. Now that I have the warranty, nothing will go wrong.
