2011 CHMSL Wire: 3rd Brake Light ??

Anyone know where the light-green (CHMSL = center high mount stop lamp) wire is located on a 2011 F150 for wiring the 3rd brake light on a camper shell?

I found the following for 2004-08 models, but I just see the wiring harness on the 2011 and no light-green wire:

"The CHMSL wire on 2004-08 F150s is located on the driver's side frame under the front door. If you look under the truck at this location there is a plastic shroud around factory wiring/plugs, on the outside of the frame. At the front portion of the wiring there is the light green CHMSL wire wrapped onto the cluster of wires."

Anyone wanna take a wild guess... :) Surely Ford still provides this on 2011 models? Or maybe they got rid of it to save mega-bucks....

Where was it on the 2009-2010?

OKAY... I posted this all over, and I guess no one knows, so I spent $20 for a 1-month subscription to service information from MotorCraft for the 2011 F150:

In case this helps someone else, send me $10... :)

On the 2011 F150, there is a blue-orange wire under the hood (on the drivers side) that can be used to wire the 3rd brake light on a camper shell. See the attached pictures. I previously saw the blue-orange wire, but had no clue what it was for, and now I know... the wire is "taped on harness near C127" which is near the Anti-theft hood switch.

Nearby there is also a yellow-green and black-green wires that were taped together, but I haven't found out what these are for yet. That will cost another $10.

Why string wire all the way to the firewall for the 3rd brake light when you can tap the trailer wiring harness that's nearby, that is if you have the trailer package?

So the blue orange wire is where I would splice in a brake flasher module?

Thank you for posting this very well done tech item!

Because ford uses the rear brake lights and the turn signal on the same wire. If u would wire your brake light from the tow package wire every time u would use your signal your brake light would blink and idt u want that lol I learned all this when I wired my light bar on the back of my truck. I had to find a wire that ford proved to run my brake light witch was under the hood drivers side little green wire. Plus I had to tap into my front turn signals to make the turns work. Hope this makes sence 2010 f150

I am glad I read this. I would have tapped into the rear tail light wire for sure. Thanks for all the good information.

I recently dug mine out to wire my ARE shell light.

Look DIRECTLY below the hood warning switch, the wire is directly below the switch on the fat wire harness, covered slightly in black electrical tape.

Hooked it up, works perfect.

Another confirmation. The chumps who installed my ARE shell wired the light to the harness going to the tail light bulb, to the always on tail light. I found the blue and orange wire, ran it to the shell light and thought "after all this, this better work". And it did. Thanks for taking the time to post the instruction.
