Here are some questions for those that have done this and added this to a aftermarket unit. Setting aside the following; you have all the parts except the rearview mirror and headliner harness:

  • 1. How or what connector did you connect to your aftermarket unit to to get the camera signal?
    2. When enabled at the dealer were there any issues with getting it to work or any issues with steering wheel controls (zoom) or guidlines not showing?
  • 3. Any additional connectors/wiring harnesses needed?
Any and all help is appreciated. FYI, I am using the Pioneer AVP-4300DVD unit.

After much debate the service manager and the tech said that yes this is how they could reflash my nav unit and make it accept the OEM camera.

So I purchased all the parts from Ford, but first I did all my pricing from Tasca and Parts.com as they both seem to have pretty good prices and took that to the parts counter at my dealership. They told me that they were all good prices, and they were their prices for the items, but that they would match it and give it to me for those prices (saved my about $100). So once these items come in next week, I am taking it to the dealer to have it flashed and reprogrammed to accept the camera and having them install the camera so that all the work will be covered should any problems arise. I will let you all know how it goes...

If all goes well, I will have a brand new LockPick and Back-up camera for sale late next week if anyone is interested. They are both brand new in the box and have never been installed.
Your welcome, glad to help when I can. It's awesome that your dealer is willing to work on it. Mine absolutely refuses to attempt to add the camera to any truck saying "It's too much of a liability". Didn't matter to me because I would have done it myself anyway. Good luck, hope all goes well.

Since you don't have the steering wheel controls, I don't think you'll have any chance of having zoom or the option to turn the guide lines off. I could be wrong but I don't think the camera was an option on the STX. So you many not be able to use all OEM Ford harnesses. Does your truck have auto dimming mirrors? If not I would think that you will end up with the inside mirror being auto dim and not the outside mirror. That being said, I'm sure you could use the same parts I did and run your own wires from the camera harness under the tailgate to the mirror. That would get your camera working just without zoom and you would probably have the guide lines, mine does, but I can't turn them off. One other thought, if you don't have auto dim your truck may not have a reverse signal going to the mirror, if that is the case you'll have to add that too.

So they want me to bring it back. Other than the zoom it works just as it should. I can say since ford added the middle headrest in the back its harder to see backing up so the camera helps allot.
Were you able to get the ford emblem off the camera assembly without breaking anything, the tabs on it make it look like it would be rather difficult. Did you just buy a spare through Tasca to replace it with?

I was able to remove mine without breaking the tabs. Just took my time.

Pickupman- did you get your zoom working? Was your dealer able to flash the cluster to turn that part on?

Never tried. I didn't care if zoom worked and didn't want to swap the entire main harness. So I ran my own wiring for the camera and omitted the wire for the BCM. Because of that zoom could not work on mine unless I rewired it.

I like the idea of adding a back up camera, might be the next thing for me. I had thought about using the 4in. productivity screen instead of the mirror.

Anybody with dash knowledge think this is possible? Like an aux feed in?

I ran the BCM network wire in the harness I made. I wonder if it can be turned on in the cluster by the dealer.

How much were the screws and inserts?
Yes that black stuff is that double sided tape that holds the non camera emblem on, to remove I just pulled gently around the edges and it came right off, no screws on the non camera emblem. I decided since all the tape stayed on the tailgate I'd leave it there and use it like a gasket. If you do that you'll have to locate the square holes for the inserts and the large hole for the harness and remove the tape covering them.

Yes, if you get the screws, inserts and the two harness you should have everything you need. Screws are part# N805949-S439 @ $0.55 each (2 needed). Inserts are part# W714711-S439 @ $0.55 each (also 2 needed). Those are what I paid for them from Tasca.
