Have you figured out how to get yours flashed yet?

I have now had some time to look at all the posts and start to understand what I have.

I am not sure on part numbers but I have:

Ford Emblem
Camera
Bezel
Tailgate harness
Rearview mirror with LCD
and the rear light harness

(basically all that comes with the ebay purchase)

From what I understand is if I want to go completely Factory I still need:

headliner harness (does that include cable to plug into mirror?)
main body harness (it would connect headliner and rear light harness together)
Screws to install camera assembly to tailgate

I am not sure about the "insert W714711-S439" what is it and do I have it already from the Ebay buy?


Next step of questions....
Can I install the new mirror with the old headliner and still have the photo chromatic element work until I get the new headliner?

Can I install the camera and replace the rear light harness while I wait for the main body harness to be ordered without ruining anything?


Last question...

If I were to get everything OEM and installed correctly how do you control turning the guidelines on and off and zoom on the mirror? (if flashed correctly)


This is my last major mod to undertake and want to get going on it but just want to make sure I have everything I need before I start tearing stuff up too bad.

 

I'll jump in and answer a couple of your questions, but I'll leave the harness questions to smunczen as he when with all OEM vs. what I did running my own wires. First if you guys get the module flashed properly the camera options will be controlled by the controls on the steering wheel and the LCD message center display in the instrument cluster. The inserts that you asked about pop into two square holes in the tailgate and are where the screws that hold the camera mounting plate attach. This pic. that I borrowed from another member should help. Good luck with your install. Hope smunczen can help with the rest.

 

Just have the stealership do it and save your self stress and headaches. Plus if it breaks it's their fault.

 

So I gather the black stuff is the two sided tape for the non camera emblem correct? It is just stuck on and fastened at all.

so I for sure need to order the clip inserts and screws for the camera assembly and then try to call Tasca and have them help me get the main body harness and headliner and then I should have all that I need.

How much were the screws and inserts?

 

I think that is the way I am leaning but I talked to a guy in the parts department and he made it seem like they weren't sure you can do that, so I want to make sure on my end I can visually install it all with the parts before me and then maybe take it to them and say now do it.

I also am toying with the idea of installing the mirror and camera and rear harness if they are not too much work and then let my dealership install the main body and headliner so that it can keep the cost down and they assume liability for the more technical/difficult parts.

 

I going back to the dealer when I get a chance to see if they can flash it. We ran into a problem last time as to truck as built software per the ford computer. Since it did not come with a backup cam it wouldn't show the option to program it. The dealer called ford hotline on this and did not get a answer really except for refer to the manual. So they want me to bring it back. Other than the zoom it works just as it should. I can say since ford added the middle headrest in the back its harder to see backing up so the camera helps allot.

 

i am also wanting to do this mod but i have an 09 STX. i know this trim package doesnt have the steering wheel controls so will this work on my truck.

since i am currently on the other side of the planet i cant go out to my truck and see what harnesses i will need but i am sure that it cant be that much different from others. been saving my pennies for this mod and i really hope its not going to be a pain in the *****.

 

I have to first send out a huge thank you to pickupman and danelizer for all the great info and technical help you have provided! I went to dealer yesterday with codes to reset the ACM to a factory condition that would accept the camera (from danelizer's posts). After much debate the service manager and the tech said that yes this is how they could reflash my nav unit and make it accept the OEM camera.

So I purchased all the parts from Ford, but first I did all my pricing from Tasca and Parts.com as they both seem to have pretty good prices and took that to the parts counter at my dealership. They told me that they were all good prices, and they were their prices for the items, but that they would match it and give it to me for those prices (saved my about $100). So once these items come in next week, I am taking it to the dealer to have it flashed and reprogrammed to accept the camera and having them install the camera so that all the work will be covered should any problems arise. I will let you all know how it goes...

If all goes well, I will have a brand new LockPick and Back-up camera for sale late next week if anyone is interested. They are both brand new in the box and have never been installed.
