Digging up this old thread.
I have a 2011 XLT. I have the wiring for the display in my headliner (i have the autodim mirror).
The body harness does not have the wires for the camera.
I would like to run my own wires to the front of the truck for the display (changing the whole body harness seems like alot of work (would it be easy with a lift? I have access to one).

My question is if I just run my own wiring for the video, where can I tap into so I can use the wiring thats already in the headliner? Id prefer not to pull the headliner down if I dont need to. Is there a place in the engine compartment where the OEM body harness would carry the video wires to if I had the harness with the video wires?

If I remember correctly the red harness is the headliner harness and is plugged into the body harness above the rear of the headliner.

We'll crap, I just looked at it again. No wires for the cam in the headliner, was looking at it upside down.

At this point is it easiest to buy the mirror, camera, and tail light harness. Then tap into trailer wires for power and ground and run my own video wires up through the headliner to the mirror and tap into the connector at pins 8/16?

That's how I did mine for the same reason.

Hi guys. My first post on this forum.

I just picked up a 2011 Lariat that has the rear camera and mirror. I have an old camping trailer that I installed a camera on the back of and ran a wire up to the hitch and I rigged my old truck with a video monitor in front so I could see behind the trailer.

I want to tap a video signal from the trailer camera in to my factory mirror screen. I have flipped through this thread but not read every post, so forgive my question. - Are posts 8/16 video IN to the mirror screen? And if so, is the harness and connector that has 8/16 in the cieling near the map-light console?

Thanks for any help!

Yes 8/16 are the video in. That connector is on the mirror itself. There is also a connector below the tailgate that has these wires. Here are the pinouts for both.

I'd use a DPDT (Double Pole, Double Throw) switch so you can select which camera is connected to the mirror. Radio Shack should have such a switch.
