I believe someone has had the dealer pull it and drain water out of it.

I remember that, the guy said the tech took the IC off and drained a couple of shots of water out. He had the shudder on the way there but not on the way home until more water built up.

I've had the dealer remove the intercooler and drain out the water. At that time there was only a shot glass full that we drained out. Since temperatures have been in the 60-70 my MPG has improved and I don't notice any shudder, so I suspect that there is no condensation accumulating in the bottom of my IC. When talking to my Ford dealer, we discussed the fact that the only Ecoboost having problems is the F150. It is believed that the fact that the outlet tube comes off the bottom of the IC for the F150 and is allowing water to be sucked into the engine. The other EB’s the outlet is midway up on the IC and therefore water remains in the bottom of the IC and is not sucked into the engine. Apparently Ford has been able to duplicate the issue in the lab and is working on a fix that may result in a design change to the IC.

If that is true about the redesign, I'm happy!! As long as it makes it to us and not just the trucks being built after the redesign.

Yea the design change will be in the new EB while those of us with 2011 and early 2012 models will be left to fight ford or buy new intercoolers.

I highly doubt Ford will leave us hanging like you describe. They'll issue a recall or the very least, a TSB. Just last year they had a similiar issue with another intercooler for the same reason and it ended up being a recall.

Do you have a link to this recall. I've had tsb 12-2-10 done and as far as turbo shudder it's very rare now. But the truck still shudders from time to time.

If my current experience is any indicator, Ford WILL leave us hanging.

I experience the low speed shudder. They threw a few parts at it and none of these resolved it. At some point Ford realized this was an issue and redesigned the driveline somewhere in the 2012 build cycle.

I am told this is "a normal characteristic" and to deal with it, even though they totally changed a major part of the truck for the following model year because of it.

Im out of options to have this fixed under warranty. So, im left with lemon law, aftermarket parts, or "dealing with it" as my only choices.

For the life of me I can't find it now. It was the very first thing that would come up on google when the latest TSB for the shudder came out. Tried to google the TSB number at that time and I at first thought it was for our trucks, but realized it was a year ago. Now when trying to google it, a bunch of forum posts like this here are all that come up. Sorry, wish I could find it again.
