Default Winter Gas Switch?

Does anyone know when the switch to winter formulated gas is made? I am wondering if this has something to do with it? I noticed mine got a lot worse when it got cold. So, I am not sure if it is temp related or fuel related. Also, is the torque converter mfg in Mexico along with the transmission? I have heard a lot of horrier stories on transmission coming out there with excessive chips, etc.

Mine is not fuel related. It's been going on since last summer. I think I'm going to call and open a case with Ford.

I can't stress this enough!!!!!

If you have this CALL FORD CUSTOMER CARE! ¡!!!!!!!!!!!!

it does not take long and will give Ford an idea of how big this issue is!

Also, please add your trucks to the shudder sticky if you haven't already.

Like most of our dads prolly told us, if you want something done right, you have yo do it yourself.

Ouch. Talked to brother inlaw, his tc is a little on the extreme side since he's close to 600 hp at the wheels, said he bought a circle d and it was 1200 and 250 to install. To rich for my blood. Lol.

The Dealer has multplie customer complaints on this shudder issue and sudden power loss.
The Dealer has determines that the shudder is the torque convertor applying too early and to much on light acceleration causing such a low engine RPM to torque ratio to result in the shudder. In rare cases the lock up is so complete that if the convertor is in full lock up and full throttle is requested at a particuliar moment, everything defaults to idle for a moment until a operational parameter can be met again. Thus we have it fall to idle for a moment. Theroy? Anyone that has had this happen, I strongly suggest a manual down shift before passing. THIS PERVENTS THE SYMPTOM.
They have proven it over and over again, caputuring it on their diagnostic PC, and sending it to Ford Engineering for help.
The Dealer has also requested Ford send an Service Rep to help with these issues. Request denied.
The Dealers are fully aware, and acknowledge that this drivabilty issue is real, very annoying, should not be there, BUT because Ford Engineering regaurds it as "NORMAL OPERATING CHARACTERISTICS" the Dealers have no resolution for the owner.
So the question is how much I like the truck? Choices are shift down into 5th at every hill and only pass or accelerate when you have the room required by a broken Chevette. Wait for Ford to admit there is and issue, and write a patch, or trade in and lose my shirt.
It is like being asked, "Do you want to be kicked in the left, or the right'?

I am very disappointed in Ford right now.

On a positive note, it polishes up nice, and looks great in the garage.

Happy New Year.

The reality is we have no visibility into what issues that Ford engineering might or might not be working on. For that matter, I don't think Ford national customer service or any local service departments do either. Ford rarely officially says "we know it's a problem, we are working on a fix". More often Ford Customer service, dealership service departments, tech hotline etc. will either deny it is a problem or throw bandaids at it...

If they do happen to be working on the issue, and do find a resolution for it, they will likley release a TSB or service advisory. But until that time, pretty much everybody is going to be clueless.

I'm not sure registering a "complaint" with with customer service will have any impact on getting Ford engineering to look at a problem. I suppose it can't hurt, but my guess is that escalation into Ford engineering is driven by other mechanisms than the customer service call center.

Well....Ford has my truck again, and they are doing the newly released 12-02-10 TSB on it. From the responses I have been hearing, I can't expect much improvement from this new upgrade ! They are also replacing my rear view back-up camera to hopefully fix my problems with the disappearing lines ! I also have a new problem with my left side speakers going on and off when they want too ! Besides that.....all is well !!

Well I've driven it about 300 miles since Friday - today about 75 miles in hilly country. Purposely tried numerous times to make it shudder, nothing. It seems to be gone, and mileage is up a bit as well.
