Roughneck, what you are experiencing is the temporary solution. Without elongating the source of the condensate, the plugs will be fouled again and the shudder will reappear. Good luck and I hope your eb keeps performing well

I drilled a weep hole in the IC last year and was shocked at how much liquid came out.
Interesting enough the service writer at the dealership told me of an IC on a guys truck that was full of liquid and froze solid in our cold winters.

So many responses and spent the last hour looking for someone with my similar issues, but no luck so here we go...

2011 Ecoboost and of course have the issue related to this thread. I have since replaced all 6 plugs with the recommended Motorcrafts. My CEL was reading a cylinder 3 misfire. When moving the coil to cylinder 1 just for troubleshooting purposes, the issue persisted, except in cylinder 1 (of course). The Ford tech replaced what we thought was the bad coil. Problem started back up again.

I just went ahead and bought a new coil, so now I have new ones on cylinders 1 and 3 hoping it would remedy the issue. Nope, terrible misfiring when accelerating and the truck even goes into some sort of weak mode (I'm assuming to save the engine).

CEL is back on, but now with two different codes, both indicating a cylinder 2 misfire.

Any idea what's happening here? Possible that I just have some bad coils that need replacing? Maybe just the boots going bad?

Pain in the butt - sorry for the lengthy post but thanks in advance.

I had codes p0299 (turbo underboost) and p0300 (randomcylinder misfires). I had carbon tracking on several of the plugs. Replaced all 6 plugs. Drilled weep hole. Dropped the intercooler and drained out all the sludge and rinsed with Simple Green. Installed catch can. I also cleaned the MAF near the intake and I had to replace the MAP in the cylinder head. It was completely caked with carbon. Once I had performed all this, it ran smooth as butter.

Hope this helps Ryan.

Definitely helpful! Always nice hearing how others solved similar/same problems. Do you mind sharing which catch can you installed? I'm trying to do this on a budget especially since I just purchased the truck, but I'll end up doing whatever needs to be done.

Thanks for the help!

I'll try to snap somepics of the sludge it caught. I still have a few gallon jugs in the garage full of that crap.

Did you replace the boots with the plugs - if you have carbon tracking on the plugs you probably also have carbon tracking on the boots? They are relatively inexpensive while you have everything apart for the plugs.

When I replaced the plugs I noticed that the boots on the coils were not tight on top of the plugs anymore. I went on a hunch and the boots were easy and cheap to replace, so I went with the simplest thing.

Purrs like a kitty now, even under WOT. I tried to make it shudder but couldn't. Before replacing the boots I could make it shudder and jump at will.

Thanks vscott and Roughneck - That's actually encouraging but haven't tried it yet. I usually go to O'Reilly's, but they have two options. Any idea which is correct?

Looking forward to seeing if this is my fix. Cylinders 1 and 3 have completely new coils and boots, so they "should" be good. Thanks again!

I went with the Ford ones. They are just boots with a spring in them that makes contact between the coil and the plug.
Either of those should work I would imagine.
