2011+ 55-60mph 5.0 Shuddering and EcoBoost Engine Miss/Loss of Power - Possible Fixes
On a side note, the 2013 Fusion Ecoboost Sport is a fun little car.

I believe it had just short of 32K - around 31,700.
Thanks,

So I was out travelling this weekend with my family in my '11 F150 EB and had it fail on me 3 times. The first time was in a passing situation on a 2 lane road. I went to pass in the opposing lane and gave it the gas and nothing but shudder. So I am sitting in the opposing lane with my family with no power. Second time was just to try and check what was going on and started shuddering again. Third time I was entering freeway trying to get in front of a semi I was next to. This time I had full shutdown with flashing engine light. I had to pull off the road and turn off the engine a couple of times trying to reset it. I finally got back on the road with the engine light on the rest of the way home. I had to baby it all the way home for fear of anything else going wrong.
I have complain to the dealership where I bought this thing since I bought it about rough idle starts, some periodic shudders and now 4 times going to limp mode. The first full limp I was trying to get out of trouble when I lost all power and almost had a serious accident. I had to take it to a Ford dealership while I was travelling when they finally did something to try and fix it. I think they did something to a sensor. Obviously that did not work. When I got it back it was still idling very rough and I took it into the local Ford dealership again and raise holy hell about it failing after they looked at it. This was at 35k. They said the plugs were bad and replace them all. Now 6 months later after the failures I started this post with it is back in the same shop and they just told me that the plugs and coil packs are bad. So the plugs lasted 7k miles? I have 42k on it now.
Is Ford just waiting for the magic number 13 people to get killed because of this like GM did before they are willing to admit any wrong and fix it?
I am done with Ecoboost. I am prolly done with Ford. It pains me to think it because I can hardly bring myself to buy a GM or Chrysler after all the bailouts. Maybe I will just ride a electric bike or something and rent a car when I need it. I give up. You would think $50k would buy you some safety and security.

I have owned the 2011 since new. changed plugs and one coil about 16,000 kms ago and it has 89000 on it now. Plugs and coil changed based on technician at ford dealer assessment under Mode 6. couple months after this I took it back as it was misfiring again. All this is happening at highway speeds. 2nd time technician said a misfire was reported in #3 and #6 cylinders, but that he couldn't get it to happen again. So I asked him numerous questions (thanks to this forum!) and he cleared the codes and told me to bring it back if it happened again. The dealership has been good, but all told I am out about 400 for parts and service, but would have been more if I didn't install plugs and coil myself. Speed ahead 5 months (because I haven't been on the highway for long drives for a while), so on a recent trip it misfired a couple of times, minor but I felt them, but when I had to put my foot down to avoid an accident it shuddered the worst yet and started to slow down (much the same as others have written here) and where it was night time noticed it smoking. I called dealership and spoke to the service rep who had the shop foreman right beside her. Basic conversation was if the check engine light isn't on and if I can't replicate the situation while the technician is in the truck then there is nothing they can do. We talked about bringing it in and having the codes checked again. Not paying another 100 bucks for an uncertain answer. Dealership has been good, but I am getting tired of having to pay to find out whether something is wrong with the coils again. Any advice? Change all the coils? Any word on a solution from Ford?
I am a Ford guy through and through, but this is getting frustrating! I won't start on the rust issues....
Thanks!

f100byford The problem with their solutions is that they are nonsolutions. Changing the plugs and coils is not going to fix it. The next time I get in a humid/wet condition and gas it the moisture will get thrown into the chambers and foul everything up again. The air intake in the wheel well for f@*k's sake. Who thought this was a good idea? Someone that lives in the desert? The air intake has be to moved and the tubes redone to make sure there is no moisture build up in them. I have a mind to just keep taking out and creating the condition on wet roads and taking it back all the time. You would think sooner or later they would get it that something else has to be fixed.

Also on the 2.7 oil filer now is a drop in on top of engine. A couple of improvements Ilike
I getting ready to buy a 2015 or 2016 F150. I have a 2011 3.5 Eco and went through the missing issue after 57K. I took it in and like most others here they couldn't reproduce the problem and asked if i could take it out with the technician and a monitor on the computer. Since I wasn't exactly happy that they had wasted a day of my time I told the tech to hang on and hammered it - sure enough it started missing - apparently their computer monitor doesn't see misses above 3,000 rpm and of course you're
above that when it starts missing. They found one bad coil pack and I had them replace all the plugs and boots. I have about 7K more on the odometer and it is still running good but I started hearing a strange noise when I start it up that goes away after about a minute. I know how this will go if I take it in so I guess I have to wait for something to fail and I'm out of extended warranty now. I was going to get another 3.5 because I like the power band but I'm thinking a good old V-8 just has a lot less to go wrong with it plus it sounds a lot better - (I have a Mustang). I'm just waiting for more XLTs to become available - all they seem to have around here is XLs. Hopefully i'll trade it in before I find out what that noise is.
The first 50K was trouble free - much better than the Dodge I replaced.
