Its very unfortunate but its the fact. I've been ford all my life but when this truck is gone I will never go back because of the way ford is handling this.

I have been to 2 different dealerships. Once even after the Ford reps here on our forum helped set up the second diagnosis.

I tried and tried to explain to them that on our forum, we have seen the shutter problem fixed by replacing the plugs with ones that are gapped properly. Both dealerships refuse to even check the plugs because the CEL isn't on, even after the Brighton dealership master tech said he definitely noticed a problem. They call Ford. They say leave it alone.

Crystal, if you think you can convince them to pull the plugs than we might be on to something. I would try a third time, but until then...

Im sick of this. I have never been more pissed off at any corporation - and I am/was a FORD lifer. But not after this.

They don't really think they give a flying flip about looking at fixing the problem.

I could go in screaming "PULL THE DAMN PLUGS AND CHECK EACH ONE" and they would tell me that they would have to charge me for that.

Sorry gang.

Ford warranty = f you customer
Ok. I'm old school. My wife threatens to kick my but and reamed me out for pulling my own plugs and re gapping- yes I got 125k warranty but plugs are like brake pads and such. Routine maintenance. Not at 7k mi I agree, but it won't void the warranty to change or check them outside ford. It's about 100 bucks you/we shouldn't have to spend but if it worked 100 bucks of happy and rub their nose in it??? Lol

Default Another shuddered cusstomer

My 2011 platinum ecoboost is shuddering, idles rough, has had CEL come on numerous times. Dealership finally wants to do the CAC TSB, however they are telling me it isn't covered under the Ford premium extended warranty (truck has 60k miles). They want $684.77 to do the TSB, change the plugs, and flush the injectors.

Not sure why I wasted my money on a Ford extended warranty if it doesn't apply to TSB's.

I was going to escalate with Ford Customer Care, but they wanted four days for the regional manager to call me back. I leave for Colorado on Thursday and the truck will stay there. So, it is either fix it myself or pay another diagnostic fee in Colorado and hope they cover it under warranty there. I was also hoping this would help address poor gas mileage. This truck does good to get 16mpg on the highway.

So, planning to change the plugs myself tonight and change the gap. Has anyone had any luck buying the deflector and installing themselves?

First ford I've owned in a long time and definitely my last. Very frustrating.

Very sad. This type of story is what keeps me from buying an extended warranty. Your just never know what is in the fine print. This shudder crap has gone on long enough...

Bbrian. Let us know how plugs work. I'm not the brightest bulb on the tree but don't see how cac has anything to do w rough idle. I have 125 k mi warranty and dealer did cac no question around 50k mi. They might not be able to prove cac has anything to do with it and won't get paid for it. Mine did the cel and no doubt what it was though.

So, being aware of the issue, I gradually got it to clear by downshifting and accelerating/decelerating as much as it would take. It cleared up by doing that.

But I went to Ford and talked to the service writer. Got stonewalled. No CEL, no code, then no help. So apparently, you need to let the big problem happen, get a light while you are in the middle of nowhere, and then hope the code is still there when you get back. I'm disappointed with this response.

I love my Ecoboost but Ford apparently isn't about to fix the issue unless you can absolutely prove it.
I think you need a wake up call! Even with all the proof in the world, Ford isn't going to fix this because there is no fix. Go back and look at every response in this thread................has there been even one that's fixed? The only sure fix is to get rid of it!

Ya can't see rods through the spark plug hole. Rods are below the pistons. Ya need to pull the pan to see rods.

He might be able to see uneven cylinder wear, or evidence of piston slapping.
But yeah, not the rods...

I consider mine fixed, but it is a 3 part process!
1.Tune it! The Ford tune is absolutely junk!
2.Aftermarket IC! The Ford IC is built as cheap as possible for the masses.
3.CAI, IMO this is optional, and the last thing to do if the first 2 do not produce satisfactory results. A lot of moisture gets sucked through the air box under boost.

My understanding is the CAC issue fouls plugs and/or increases the likelihood of misfire. The truck was idling fine until two recent shuddering episodes. When in the shop yesterday they were able to pull codes that confirmed the CAC TSB needed to be done.
