2011+ 55-60mph 5.0 Shuddering and EcoBoost Engine Miss/Loss of Power - Possible Fixes
Dump your losses. They aren't going to fix the issue. They know it exists. They know what it would actually cost them to fix it. They've calculated the losses involved and deemed it not worth the cost.
Good luck.
Good luck.
The factor Ford engineer came to test my truck and told me they cant fix this problem because the EPA wont allow a drain from the intercooler. This is the end of the line for me, so the verdict is in plan accordingly. Good luck in court everyone because Ford plans to fight all of us..

Mine just got out of the shop for a terrible idle in the morning after the new cac and pcm flash. My local dealership wanted to do nothing and told me they know there are several with the rough idle but there is no fix. Contacted ford and took it to another dealer. They replaced the throttle body. They told me they did all that ford would let them do. I guess I will find out in the morning if this fixes it.
Maybe this will help:
The TSB (it may have been brought up previously) is 12-10-9, also listed as SB-10051923-9343. It specifically addresses the problem. The title, is you still have to prove to the dealer it really exists, is as follows:
3.5L GTDI - INTERMITTENT STUMBLE/MISFIRE ON ACCELERATION FROM HIGHWAY CRUISE IN HUMID OR DAMP CONDITIONS WITH POSSIBLE DTC.
If you need a copy of the TSB, send me a note on this thread with an e-mail and I'll send you a scanned copy. It's only two pages and supersedes TSB 12-6-4.
It's a shame that Ford is dragging its feet on this. The bad PR they're going to get from customers who complain to magazines such as Road & Track, Motor Trend, and all the truck-specific mags, will cost them far more than it will cost to fix the problem or deal with a class-action lawsuit. Not that I'm saying to complain to the various magazines, but ............

Just heard back from the second, and different Ford dealership after Crystal helped. I took a ride with the service guy and he felt the vibration at idle and around 55 MPH. I felt much better that he acknowledged it. I explained that the last dealership service center said this was normal operation and didn't look into anything. He told me he would not settle for that and would find it, no matter if it was just my truck that did it and anyone else's.
My call came back today.
I was hoping that like Bob's issue, they would at least check the gaps on the plugs, anything. But it's the same story. They claim this shutter is normal, so it's basically take it or leave it. Had I known this would happen, I wouldn't have bought this truck, and now I'm stuck with it. My 2001 5.4 litre with over 200K drove smoother than this brand new truck.
And until this is resolved, I would give Chevy and Dodge another look. And maybe they would try harder to diagnose the issue instead of saying " that's just how it is ". Completely unsatisfied.

JD:
Need to ask if you have any thing aftermarket, specifically a K&N or AirRaid oil-coated filter on the truck.
I had a similar issue with my 2011 5.0 FX4 SCREW. It seems that the engine generates enough heat that the oil on the air filters (normally not an issue) evaporates enough that it get on the plugs and causes firing issues. The dealership wasn't aware, but the mechanic who actually worked on it knew because he had suffered a similar issue and firgure out the fix. He put a factory filter back on it after replacing the plugs and the issue went away.
Being the glutton for experimentation I am, I still wanted more oomph from the engine. Switched to an AiRaid SynthAir filter (dry-weave, not oil-coated). I got the extra I wanted in the first place, and haven't had an issue since.
I hope this is of some help.
