2011+ 55-60mph 5.0 Shuddering and EcoBoost Engine Miss/Loss of Power - Possible Fixes
The owners manual clearly states to use 87 octane. If your truck is not living up to the MPG's advertised for your engine, and they are unable to fix it, there is clearly a lemon law case present. IMO, time to research laws in your state.
In the meantime they, Ford Engineering, not my dealer, recommends running Premium instead of 87. They are claiming the 87 O is causing the soot, and poor MPG.
That's almost funny..... One of there big marketing strategies was the numbers this truck would get on 87 octane. It's a good thing these trucks have great payload capacities because we are being handed alot of BS to carry around.

Yep, if I wasn't so ticked off I would have laughed when he said that. This is the first, two more and I start the process for getting rid of this.
What irks me the most is knowing that this truck CAN get 19 MPG on trips such as mine, and that was the biggest reason I went ahead and traded a perfectly fine 2010 Flex, AND my fully paid for 1999 Dually Diesel. If the truck didn't need more than half of its book value to get road worthy, I never would have even considered this. Now that I think about it, I should have just had the repairs done and sold the Flex outright.
So much for the $400 a year savings of not owning 3 vehicles.

The service manager was just passing on the information from Ford. He know quite well the truck is rated for 87. He thinks its a line of Bullshnot too.
Ford has 3 more attempts and 8 months before they buy it back. I am not waiting 8 months. Every 1000 miles I am taking it in.

well how do you like this, Ford just proved in a court of law that it's normal for a 2011 F150 to buck and shudder it's way down the road.
I pulled Ford Canada and the dealership into small claims over the shudder and damage done by the dealer during maintenance. The case got dismissed because I didn't provide expert testimony that my truck shudders in an abnormal way, I may appeal on the precedent set with "2010 NS Small claims Moffat vs Dartmouth Chrysler Jeep Dodge" that "Consumers should not need forensic engineers to establish every warranty claim.". Ford and the dealer both provided witnesses that said that the shudder in my truck is 100% normal operation.
So, other than an appeal which I'm not really interested in wasting any more time on this truck, I've got no options left than to suck it up and spit it back in their face.
I knew better than to buy a Ford, I had very little faith in the brand before buying this truck and decided to give them a chance to save a few bucks at the pump with an ecoboost. What I get in return is a truck that shudders under the slightest load, clicks from the rear end, poor gas mileage after the dealer putting 5w20 in while I had a consistent misfire at the height of summer and a set of rims that look like a chimp pried off the center caps with a rusty file.
Never again, not me, not my kids and hopefully nobody else thinking of giving ford a kick at the can.
My complete new vehicle ownership experience will be posted at www.ecolies.ca soon enough and you can follow @ecoliesdotca on twitter. Did you know ford is pretty responsive to twitter questions, I'm hoping to see #MyLastFord used a bit more.

Its amazing, it seems like there is no middle of the road with this truck. You either love it or you want to set it on fire in the middle of the street. I can live with almost anything and usually fix noises by turning up the radio, but driveability issues are dangerous and MPG issues cost money at $4 a gallon. It seems that I have developed just about every driveability and mileage issue mentioned on this site. Today when driving to work and back home in cold wet weather, the truck drove most of the time like a truck that had a 3.5l V6 with no turbo's at all, and when it did have boost, it surged constantly. The sad part is, still no check engine light. Does Ford have no diagnostic sensors on the Ecoboost? I did a 300 mile all highway trip this past weekend and averaged 15 MPG. I get 14 city, 15 highway. Ford told my dealer, do nothing at this time, we are working on a solution. Its running so crappy now that the shudder / bucking cant even happen.
Wow. One for ford in the courts. That's not good. I thought mine was doing well since the last TSB update in February. Until today. It was about 1degree Celsius. Rainy and snowing. 80kmh up a hill. Started shuddering/missing quite a bit. I'm not happy. Although mine hasn't fallen on its face yet while accelerating, I do have the black soot on the tail pope now. I hope this thing isn't starting to go for a crap. We don't have a lemon law system here.
Quotes from my visit today. They printed out the Oasis report in full and attached it. I give my dealer credit, they pulled no punches and didn't give me a line. Ford though, did.
There is more useless information on the sheet, like the driver doesnt know how to drive, refer to fueleconomy.gov, blah blah blah. BTW did I mention I got 45 MPG this morning in my FFH? I was so stunned I actually took a picture of it.
The Stumble and surge symptoms are known concerns that are currently being investigated by engineering, refer to SSM 22225. Monitor Oasis for updates
Additionally this engine is calibrated to operate most efficiently on premium fuel (91 octane or high). If the customer is using regular fuel (87 octane), recommend to use 2-3 tank fulls of premium fuel and retest the fuel economy.
