2011+ 55-60mph 5.0 Shuddering and EcoBoost Engine Miss/Loss of Power - Possible Fixes
There have been a ton of patents on this issue over the last dozens of years specifically addressing intercooler condensation. There have also been condensation trap patents for pressure vessels going back almost 100 years. It is “not” new science.
Here are the Ford and GM patents. So from an engineering standpoint Ford can solve the problem. If you read it in detail it specifically addresses the problems we are having with F150 Ecoboost.
The third patent prevents the condensation from condensing out of the air to begin with. I would imagine that is too expensive for Ford or GM to apply to their vehicles?

my 2012 eco lariat has a build date of 3/12. i first time i romped on it up a 2 deg. hill the truck misfired for about 1000 feet. i took it back to the dealer and they said there were no codes so i dont think the updated tune of feb. 7th holds any misfire issues better. the truck had 300 miles on it when it misfired. it now has 500 miles on it.
Wow. Am I ever glad to read this thread. Have not been back to the forum much since I got my FX4 EB in October. Looks like we are all experiencing similar problems. I have been back to the dealer twice and they "updated". Doesn't help. Why do we have to find the proper fixes online?? Not right.........
I'm out.
I have been following this thread since the purchase of my 2011 FX2 Ecoboost in October 2011. If Ford can't figure this problem out in the 6 months I have been involved with this AND continue to sell "buggy" 2012 Eco's, I don't want any part of this company.
Working out a "buy back" or filing for Lemon Law arrangement (whichever leave me less screwed) today.

6AM Sat – Houston current temp at my house is 68 and also 68 for the dew point. Winds are out of the south about 25-30mph. Generally it should be the same tomorrow morning too. Perfect weather conditions to make the EcoBoost go mad on the trip to Dallas tomorrow morning. Unfortunately, when it gets like this here, the storms in the middle of the country will be bad. No rain at our house, but stepping outside is like walking into a high speed steam sauna and you will sweat at 68 degrees with no sunlight.
On Sunday morning we should also hit a mild cool front, a drop of about 10 degrees ambient. That should hit us around Corsicana (south of Dallas). So the theory is, since the intercooler will be full of water, and then crushing the dew point further by 5-10 degrees on the hiway, should make the Ecoboost performance drop like a rock.
The only difference on this planned trip from my previous trips with this exact type of weather conditions will be driving much faster (15 to 20mph faster). That may be enough to keep the MPGs up and the water out.
