That shouldn't be hard, I average 15.2 miles per gallon hauling nothing. And that's good from what I've seen on other Eco's computer's readouts. It's only North America that hasn't embraced small diesels.
As far as reliability, I have never owned a Ram but 2 out of 3 new F150's I've bought have had ongoing issues.

As far as the miss/shudder, it's been 1000k since the TSB was done. Has not come back. Wish it hadn't taken 2 years to fix.
Awww come on now.....1000K = 1000 X 1000 which I think is 1 million. Did you mean 1K meaning 1 thousand miles? I had the TSB done about 2200 miles ago and yes the shudder is gone but so is the power and I think I have lost some fuel economy as well. Oh well, the dealer is getting it back. I just traded it for a 2014 F250 Lariat diesel due to arrive next week. Now that Ford is using the urea for regen and not burning the pistons up I can go back to the diesels I love.

Well to be accurate it's 1000 kilometers (klm's) but really who cares. The bottom line is the first 3 times to the dealer it started to shudder /miss before the end of the parking lot. I can finally enjoy driving my truck. I live in an area with plenty of hills so it was constant. Nice to have it fixed. Too bad it took 2 years (and denial by the service dept) to figure it out.

So just an update, I drove 900 miles over the weekend and it happened 3 times.

I'm no longer getting a large shaking but the truck just falls flat on it's face. 1 of the 3 times was pretty scary as I could not merge and was in fear of getting hit.

Same thing, foggy weather, driving on cruise for a couple of hours. Then Exit and when I go to get back on the on ramp, I punch it and .... it falls flat, just stops accelerating.

The last time I went in I was under factory warranty, I'm now under CPO extended warranty. I would think seeing as I brought it in for the same problem before, that it will be covered under the factory warranty, This is the first time I've driven in these conditions since I got it out of the shop.

I really wish 300 pages of problems would have ford fixing the problem. This was/is my first ford truck. I've driven Chevy my whole life.

1/3 of my miles have been pulling a 4,000 to 8,000 lb trailer. It was when I was pushing a 30 mph wind head on with cheap gas it laid down on me. I only use premium gas now and it hasn't done it since.

With that said I am looking at a new truck... It will be the Ram 1500 diesel. Ram has more options than Ford.

1 I like is the 4 corner air suspension. Not offered by Ford. 2 The Ram boxes. and 3 is the Diesel.
The longevity of the Diesel is longer than a gas and more fuel efficient. Don't get me wrong I have been very happy with my Eco Boost. But it is time to move on. I have no warranty now so it is time to update. Not sure I want an aluminum truck..... If you are in a wreck it takes special tools to put it back together right. That is going to make it more expensive. Insurance will be higher.

If the specs are right this Ram will do the same thing my eco boost does and will be cheaper at doing it.
Eating Crow is nasty but I am here to say I was wrong...

The Ram 4 corner suspension is a joke...... Ride is still rougher that a Ford and it can only be adjusted for 4 wheeling. At 45 mph it lowers the truck back down.

Options are expensive and after you put all of them on, your payload is so small you can't haul anything except your mother-in law.

The EcoDiesel not that it matters because you haven't any payload left could not pull the Grapevine in California pulling a trailer above 55 mph.
Research in my case has paid off....

I applaud you for manning up and eat'n a bit of crow. I haven't done any research on the Ram but, I kinda figured it wouldn't pull a fried egg out of a Teflon pan just looking at the specs, and the big payload deficit makes this truck not worth consideration, that and the last two diesel Dodges I had ('01.5 and '06) were both junk except for the engines! Thanks for the update.

Just bought a used 2011 F150 4x4 ecoboost super crew and this thread has me concerned. Hope I didn't buy into a lemon. I haven't had it past 100km/h yet, but I must say that it drives like a dream with plenty of power. I will have to keep an eye out for this shudder.

Default ram eco diesel

I totally agree with you as to payload for a fully loaded ram not very good but how you can rate the diesel for pulling is questionable, they have not even hit the dealers yet.

So, I'm at the Dealer

Battery is kaput!
CEL light on from Misfire
Service

2012 Eco 31k

No problem battery covered under warranty.
Service no problem

Misfire - interesting talk with the Man. Says it happens often and the reason is too much H2o going through turbos when conditions are right - ( all what we have agreed on here, so far so good).

The fix - cover where water enters - and he agreed this does kill power.

Asked him about changing the spark plugs and gaping to .30 - NO WAY not while under warranty. And per him this will not fix anything.

Asked what he would do if he were me and his answer is "nothing, just know it can happen in certain conditions and under hard acceleration. If it were me, nothing. We have taken trades with people going to 5.0 because MPG not what they expected".

So, will drive on and see of the fall on its face happens again or not I suppose. I really love my truck and the power. Not so worried about MPG. It does good there.

Cause while it has torque, it has very low horsepower so you will be going slowly. And opening her up will similarly kill fuel economy of that expensive Diesel. Just like when you open up an Ecoboost.
