Default Solution to the Problem

Keep in mind this is just my opinion. However, I've seen it work before.

If someone sets up a thread to collect names (along with documentation of the problem and attempted resolution) and then advises Ford that they can expect a Class Action Lawsuit, I can guarantee you will get a response from them. If the Ford Rep on this thread is not performing as expected and is as rude as stated by others, that needs to be included with the prep for the lawsuit. Large corporations tend to ingnore the individuals, particularly when the product works well in other venues, ie., the EB seems to work well in the Explorer and Escape. The assumption is then that there's really nothing wrong with the engine; it's just a "few unhappy customers that don't understand."

FWIW, I have the 5.0 in my 11 FX4 SCREW. I've never had a problem, other than it doesn't like K&N air filters.
It's truly a shame that an engine that showed so much promise has started causing people to leave and go to other manufacturers. Like the new Ram 1500, with the 3.0 Diesel. That's where the future is! Ford could have introduced it for the 13 models (they already have the design completed), but they're dragging their feet.

They (Ford) could be leading the pack on technology for the 1/2T series of trucks, but are letting Chrysler get ahead of them!

I've been saying it since the beginning of these problems. It's not the motor, it's the transmission, torque converter and programming. The trans and TC are a poor setup for this truck with this motor. This thread isn't even about the "loss of power" issue. It's about the shuddering people get on light load going up slight inclines at 35-55mph. Feels like a misfire, but from everything I looked at when I owned my truck, it was not a misfire. It was the TC locking and unlocking from the torque down low. So, what did Ford do to try and fix it? They gimped the ECU cutting back power and torque. *facepalm* Form knows what the problem is. They know it's not a safety issue. They know roughly how many vehicles are effected. They know what it's going to cost to resolve the issue. Then they calculate it out. Cost per vehicle times the amount of vehicles and BOOM there's the number. Then a bean counter steps in and says "Hey, if we just ignore it, **** off X amount of people for X amount of years, lose X amount of customers until we re-design the transmission we can save X amount of dollars". So, there you have it.

I can't disagree with anything you wrote... including the bit about the transmission. The only "beef" I really have about my EB is the transmission, which is flaky as heck. (But generally gets the job done, if clumsily.) My 2011 EB is the best Ford I've owned to date... which demonstrates the huge gulf between user experiences with this truck.

Default 2012 F150 supercrew xlt

I had a similar problem with the shuddering during hard acceleration, especially in the rain. The dealer said that there was a defect on the inter cooler for the turbos, causing condensation on the inside of the inter cooler. The replaced it and did not have any problems since. I just upgraded from a 2012 to a 2013. 500 miles in I really haven't pushed the new one enough to know if it will have the same problem. I will let you know if it does and what the fix is when it happens.

If you have the shudder after attempting the below items like I have, cause your CEL to trigger from the shudder/misfire, take to ford and check Mode 6, trace to cylinder(s), replace cylinder coil(s). This has been the only thing that resolved this shudder issue for me.

Items that didn't work:
- Install redesigned cooler
- Latest PCM update
- Install new turbos

Has anyone noticed that if they use a programmer it resolves this shuddering? Or the vibration issue that has been stickied as well? I am looking at a 2011 F150 Screw with a 5.0 and it definitely felt like it had a vibration at 55ish. I was thinking of chipping it anyways so was hoping maybe it helps with shift points and torque converter.

Default Eco-Loss of Power

2011 – F150 Eco-Boost with 53,000 miles. The check engine light appeared immediately as I tried to pull onto a freeway pulling a 3000 lbs boat. All of a sudden I had a drastic loss of power followed by a violent shutter. This eco-boost had been slightly shuttering under low RPM high torque loads since the day I bought it, but Ford said that without a warning light they couldn't do anything. Now the warning light comes on and I’m out of warranty. The dealer – Blue Bonnet Ford in New Braunfels, TX states that all repairs and diagnostic fees will be at my cost.

All of this comes on the heels of a failed power steering system 3 weeks ago. I spent a week fighting with Ford to get them to cover the parts, but it cost me 500 to cover the labor. Now I’m starting all over again. I’m beyond frustrated. My F-350 had an ongoing issue with failed fuel injectors, and now this F150 seems to be another UNRELIABLE truck. Don’t buy a truck based solely on appearance. I really think the Ford trucks are the best looking on the road, but my 4 previous Chevrolet's never had a single mechanical issue. That 350 motor is bullet proof.

Why in the world would I buy an extended warrantee? Its Ford tuff and reliable, correct??? NOT!

Hi bigmike67,

I responded to your post on another thread, but I wanted to make sure I reached out to you here, too. I want to look into this and see how I can help. Shoot a PM my way with your name, daytime phone number, mileage, VIN, and servicing dealership; I'll start researching some options.

Default The Condensation Issue

I've been wondering if this would strike my Ecoboost. I've been thinking that they are ALL capable of the jerking and loss of power if conditions are right. Sure enough, after 30,000 miles, it finally happened to me after an extended towing session in cold and rain. I felt it start to stumble. So, being aware of the issue, I gradually got it to clear by downshifting and accelerating/decelerating as much as it would take. It cleared up by doing that.

But I went to Ford and talked to the service writer. Got stonewalled. No CEL, no code, then no help. So apparently, you need to let the big problem happen, get a light while you are in the middle of nowhere, and then hope the code is still there when you get back. I'm disappointed with this response.

I love my Ecoboost but Ford apparently isn't about to fix the issue unless you can absolutely prove it.

You'll still get the 'I/we need a code' but I've learned to grab my phone and turn on the video recorder and start recording. Then you'll get the 'well it's not that we don't believe you, it's just that we have to reproduce it.' Understood, but the video proof makes it that much harder to ignore.
Had a number of problems with and Explorer w/My Ford Touch and then when we'd take it in it would work fine. My videos made it to Ford corporate and they ended up providing an update.
