I have a 2012 Ecoboost and experienced the problem once at 21,000 miles. Towing, in the heavy rain, attempting to pass, the truck started misfiring like crazy and took a long time to recover. Took in into Ford and they applied TSB 13-8-1, and installed a new bank two cat. So far the problem hasn't come back but I also don't think the situation has been recreated yet. I wonder what the power loss is with blocking the lower 7 rows on the intercooler. CAC is BL349L440AC.

Have you guys read Fords letter back to the NHTSA concerning the investigation? It is quite an interesting read. It's on NHTSA's website if interested. One thing on an interesting note, Ford has a new air deflector design that came out on aug. 2, 2013 and they say can be used with the original CAC to eliminate the loss of power during wet conditions. Also Ford has been investigating this problem since early 2012 and tested the F150 echo boost extensively in an environmental chamber. And yes, the did replicate the problem. This letter should be taken to the dealer if you have this problem. They now can't say no they couldn't replicate the problem or no we have never heard of the issue. Interesting information starts on page 12.

I guess that says it all from Ford. They say evaluations prove a vehicle going through the power loss episode is able to maintain speed as well as accelerate. They also say the corrective measures they've implemented "effectively and appropriately address the issue". Nowhere do they say they are working on a better or more permanent solution. They've moved on.

To me it seems like the way they conducted the tests is not scientific. They did not naturally accumulate water in the CAC. Instead they dumped 3 - 8 ounces in there, ran the truck up to steady speed at 70mph, and went WOT. While it does ingest the water and cause misfires with this test, does it really set the other sensors and gauges up for the same conditions people notice on the road? In Ford's test they note they did have misfires but no acceleration loss and they even had the ability to gain speed reaching 80 mph while misfiring. That does not match what people see in real life, and makes the issue seem more like a nuisance than anything.

They're not going to fully own up to it. Not until people start dying as a result. And even then they'll fight it in court waiving their "test results".

What he said ^^^ I did already and mine is still on the lot for sale since march. Mine wasn't too bad except for gas mileage. 14 on the highway is not what I paid for.

I had the problem twice with my 2011. If my new 2013 does it I will contact the NHTSA. I have been driving Fords since '79 but if they won't own up to the problem then if enough contact the NHTSA then they will have to do something

Yep... I'm going to let mine get me through the winter months and I'm afraid I'll be trading her in. I don't want to deal with trying to convince someone these trucks don't have issues, despite the low number of occurences I've had. Extremely disappointed in Ford... not only for this fubar, but for also their lack of diversity in the luxury car market with Lincoln, my favorite brand. Guess I'll be looking at Dodge, but more likely I'll just get myself back in to a car, being my commute has recently increased, and give my occasional need for a truck to Lowes or Home Depot.

Kinda reminds me of the Bronco 2 saga, where Ford estimated the retooling for the factories was going to be more costly than the lawsuits of death...

Or the Ranger that had the ability to catch on fire under the dashboard just sitting. I personally saw this happen to a friends truck and Ford actually paid him blue book value for it when he started to investigate this defect. He had to sign a document that silenced him before Ford would pay, so he didn't have to go through insurance.
