There's a theory a few of us have that below 32F the intake air sensor goes to 0 and flat lines there. One person over on F150Ecoboost doing some after market tuning noticed it. I am still looking for a laptop monitor ap or some other way to read mine to see if it's doing the same. If not, I am going in next week to get the first oil change, re-re-re-SYNC , this TSB, and hopefully it will be cold enough for them to check the intake air temp sensor.

This would certainly explain the cold weather mpg problem! Geez, my drive this morning was clear down to 13.5mpg . I would have gotten between 17 and 18 last summer.

Remember that Mars probe that slammed into the planet at 17,000 mph because someone was writing code in metric distance and others in english? Going from F to C when it crosses the freezing threshold would explain a lot.

MPG not necessarily related to shudder though . . . ALERT

I think these service depts are hearing something from Ford and not passing it on. I truely believe we are just being strung along until you have had your truck a year and then the lemon laws won't apply and Ford is home free.
I agree....! It is a stall tactic. I just went through this with my "07" Chevy and the oil consumption issue. I have a payment coming up again the end of the month and I can hardly write the check I want to trade it in and get something else but I am affraid I will really take a beating. Others I have spoken to are doing the same thing. This issue is becoming well known. On other sites are ref them as "Shudder Boxes". I wonder if this is why sales of the F150 are only up 7.5% vs Jan where Ram sales are up 40+%. I think I am going back to Japanese vehicles. I have been burnt the last two times and I have had enough................................!

I have had the Suddering/Misfire problem for about a month & 1/2 now. Mine has been doing it from low speed up to 55-65mph. I am in New Bern NC close to the coast so you guys that have felt this on hills I do not experience. Mine does it just normal driving and real bad when pulling a boat. Any way took it to the dealer today for this reason and my electric seat wants to act crazy but mainly they did the new TSB 12-02-10 today and said that is ran good today. Had to leave it with them tonight so I am not sure if it fixed but I have high hopes. One thing that the SM said is when they did a Mode6 on the computer it showed no misfires/ backfires and that blow me away. All this time the noise that I have been hearing sound like it was coming from the exhaust pipe area so I am very confused now. I will report on this again after I get it back tomorrow. I know how frustrated some of you guys are and I hope this is the fix. I have had four Tundra’s before this Ford and I changed because of my Research and the CEO so it is important to me that I made a good decision. I also want to THANK each one of you that take the time to post information on this site, it has been a great help. RET U.S Army 1SG
The TSB did not work on my truck it is still doing the same thing. It going back Monday for the SM to ride in it so he can see. Based on what I am reading I don’t think that will make any difference. The strangest thing on the service was in Mode 6 it showed no Backfire or misses which makes me wonder if it is the CATCovert It about 65-70 deg here so I don’t think it has nothing to do with any sensor of temperature. Again Thank all of for your imput

A number of mild hills here and there. Not flat by any means just mixed.

Update. I had the TSB thing done Thursday. My shudder problem was improved. I now feel ONE miss or a slip or something at the beginning of the hill but I don't get the shudder the rest of the way up. I noticed that some guys are saying they have improved throttle response and power. If anything, my truck feels sluggish now, it had better power and throttle response before the TSB flash. My mileage seems to be just as bad as before. I still have an "odd" 3rd gear shift. I sometimes have to hit the "up" button on the shifter to see the gears.

The shudder is seems to be less severe anyway.

The odd third gear shift should do that since it won't downshift into second third acts for second then fully locks into third.

I was told by service advisor that the reflash was meant to help the problem but wont make it go away. So far that is what i have noticed. I am really hoping my mileage goes up with this, was getting 14.5 here in winter months. 15.8 over 5,080 miles is what the trip b reads. The funny thing is i never noticed the shudder until i read this thread, LOL. Overall i am happy with it, I used to own an 09 sierra and this ford beats it in every way!!
Update: Took truck for approx 400 mile round trip from fargo to hibbing mn yesterday. I reached the 20 mpg threshold for the first time! I feel the shudder has not been improved at all with the refash. If anything it has gotten worse.

I have made a request that this thread be made a sticky along side Bucketman's thread as this is affecting quite a few 2011-2012 trucks.

Drove 250 miles since the reflash. I think my shudder has improved but not completely gone. I pulled my Yamaha Rhino 220 miles yesterday and the shudder didn't drive me crazy like it did before. I only averaged 12.9 mpg because the windshield on the Rhino is like pulling a sail.

The last few days my 5.0L seems to be 'misfiring' (shudder?) more than usual. It only happens around 60 mph and 1500 rpms. Is this the same issue that the other 5.0L owners are experiencing and discussing in this thread? Sorry EcoBoosters....not trying to hijack the thread.
